There is/are no letter/s preceding the 4010XXX serial # located on the right side of my K9 frame. Research here is showing no such (non-existent) lettering for s#/dating? All K9 records indicate a prefix with some letter/s?
What gives?

thanks,
hangdog

recieved return email to my request to Kahr, swiftly.
I was told, 1995.
I'll attempt to post this info. to the sticky about such.

First year, first run? Prototype? :+)
I have to wonder if parts are interchangable with what is available from Kahr today.
More research required here.
Be well,

Seems that it is the high carbon steel early model, (chrome steel?) by some accounts. As I understand it so far this was possibly the first year of production for the K9. I've got a lot to learn about this old gal; that is, when she arrives.
I do hope that current, easily available parts will interchange. fingers crossed!
Odd thing; serial # didn't have a lettered prefix.
Thanks for the interest.

My 1996 carbon steel K9 has AE as it's serial number prefix and a low serial number, so they started using this system early on. The only parts I've changed are the recoil spring, grips and mags. The sights are the only parts you may have to really make sure you match with the early production date, and order "old style" sights, should you need them changed.

Enjoy your "new" Kahr.

you got me beat, mine is K9-AC00xx April 1995

I had to send it in to get the trigger bar and spring updated, they changed the design, and the old parts are no longer available.

Jason4X4, thanks for the reply.
good/bad information; it is what it is, I suppose.
I've yet to recieve the item. Am told "blued" high carbon by seller, Kahr mentioned "black oxide" finish. We'll see.
I have to wonder about other parts availability for such early models, hopefully won't need any. Duh...I'll simply call the Kahr folks, or better yet email....righhhhht!

Any other links or personal insight/experience concerning the "EARLIES" will be much appreciated.

Be well,
hangdog

The early K9 had a heavy recoil spring and were rated for +P+ ammo. They are very reliable, robust and tough. What they aren't is what many would consider "pretty". The finish is utilitarian. The trigger is of course the long standard K9 trigger.

If this is your first Kahr, as the one pictured was mine, your first impression may be "this thing goes forever and never breaks!" The trigger may take some getting use to.

Enjoy it when it get there. It's no beauty queen, but is is very competent.
