Had a pretty crappy day at work today so I broke out the guns and cleaning supplies and cleaned 8 pistols! I think just the smell of Hoppes and the mindless work of cleaning and lubing everything makes me feel better. I used to be able to go through two or three range sessions without cleaning a pistol and now I can't even get to sleep at night if a gun is dirty..........I think I am developing OCD with my guns, lol.

That's not a bad thing to have. I think I've had it for years. I get nervous leaving guns dirty, sort of like feeding your horse or dog team before you eat yourself.

I am glad that I am not the only one. I thought I was crazy. Good to know other people are in the same boat...then again, we may all be crazy!
I actually like to put my kids in bed. Pull out the guns and give them a good cleaning. Then I feel totally relaxed. I have to make sure they are clean after each session.

I've always felt the next best thing to firing my weapons is cleaning them. So yes I agree that it is very therapeutic.
Yes it is, except for this evening. I had to clean 2 new Bersa Thunder's for my BIL, had to get all of that heavy grease off quickly, so he and his wife could shoot them before it got dark, and he only came over about 20min. before dark !! Then I made him, clean them after they shot.

Put me down as a big yes. I enjoy cleaning my guns almost as much as I enjoy shooting them. It's definitely therapeutic

I am exactly that way with my two Harley's. I gues alot of that goes back to when I grew up, I never had nuttin, worked my ass off to get where I am today and now I appreciate nice tings and take care of them. My guns are no different. My cars are no different.
Now if I cold just cleanmy act up alittle. Just sayin

I kind of enjoy cleaning my Guns. My two favorites believe it or not are my 1911 and my Ruger MKIII 22/45. They take some patients and thought, when compared to most pistols today. As for my Harely I wrench on that to and, it gets clean quite often but I must admit I'm not as particular as I used to be when I was younger. Being it's a 2004 and has been a lot of places, and has put a whole lot of smiles on my wife and I's faces through the years, it's not going to win any bike contest, even thought it is still a looker. As you get closer to it though you can tell, just like it's owner she's been to the dance more than once.:D
I quit smoken and drinken years ago so I've cleaned my act up about as good as it's going to get, and still some of my friends say I'm nuttier than a portapotty on a peanut farm.:(They just may be right with me saying I do not mind cleaning a Ruger MKIII pistol which so many others seem to hate, but damn I'm having fun. I yam what I yam..........Popeye

If cleaning a gun right after you shoot is OCD then count us in. I can't stand a dirty gun.
In fact, if I can't get to the range every week I still take my carry guns apart hit them with some compressed air and make sure the lub is fine (I don't clean the barrel).
However, we do something that adds to the therapeutic effect of cleaning the guns.
After we put away all the bullets and bring out the cleaning stuff I pour myself a glass of wine and Hubby makes himself a martini. It sure adds to the fun and makes the (made up) war stories more interesting!!

Well, I find gun shooting therapeutic.
And I really have to clean my guns every time I shoot them.
Usually immediately after shooting.
But always withing a few hours.
Although pungent, I have found I like the smell of Ballistol.
And actually do enjoy cleaning my new Bulgarian AK.
The gun is truly elegant in it's simplicity and function.

I get this a little bit too. I think its so I don't forget where all the parts go ya know? Hate getting all done and having stuff laying there with no apparent home.
Kind of awkward.

Cleaning guns... not so therapeutic! Buying guns and ammo... very therapeutic! Every acquisition makes me feel better. Sometimes I just want to get all of my ammo out and play King Midas with his gold!

Cleaning? Or buying guns? My van is over 8 years old and I think it's great! I can't even get one with some of its features anymore... not that I can afford to buy a new vehicle! Guns are cheaper, but can get costly with all of the ammo and accessories!
I was fondling my... er, Wifey's new G19 last night and started to worry that I might chip a tooth or put my eye out trying to manipulate it with one hand. I need to work on my hand strength... could only reset the striker once, one-handed... without dragging it on my clothing.

I love to clean guns almost as much as shooting them....After a day at the range I like to sit down, turn on a good movie, pour up a little fine bourbon and go to work....I can't sleep good at all with a dirty gun in he house and giving them the proper amount of TLC is just therapeutic and relaxing to me...
My wife tells me I'm completely OCD when it comes to cleaning my guns so I have to be real careful not to over do it....Just last Saturday night I was giving my everyday carry concealed piece some special attention with an extra good cleaning in the shower and the dang thing went off on me!!!!....I didn't even know the little thing was loaded!!!....Sure was shiny clean though............WHAT????.....:bump2:

Mowing grass, shoveling snow and cleaning firearms - good therapy.

Words to live by right there although I lean more to grass cutting over snow shoveling. I enjoy riding my Husqvarna rider, nobody driving by that doesn't know me knows I'm a derelict. Kind of manly!
Course nobody drives by that don't know me so guess it's just a warm thought.
I'll have to do thread on properly attired and equipped riding lawn mower operation later this year.

Do enjoy cleaning my handguns. Long guns not so much.
I used to clean my guns obsessively. Then I got a half decent wife.

I like to do it when I want to but when I have to it's a pain. When I take two guns to the range it's fun,BUT when I get home it's twice the time to clean!!!!! I rather take my 1911 out of my night stand and gently clean it because I want to,remember you have to take every little part and give it the white glove clean.I don't think I would mind so much if my hands where not splitting so bad.GEE's I can't keep my shop that clean,A clean gun is a good gun.Hope my eyes still hold up

My hands are bad! When I was in the Air Force I was even ordered to go to the dermatologist, so I know what you are talking about.
Have you ever tried to wash your hands real well and then applying super glue to your splits? It helps me. Plus I wear surgical gloves when I clean my guns.

Cleaning my gun is like having sex with my wife. Can't say I don't enjoy it and it does have it's rewards, but it's still a chore. Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Try to whistle a tune while you do it. Make the time pass faster. :)

Lately cleaning has been growing on me. I still like to shoot and reload more though.
I have about 20,000 rounds of .45 ACP and 15,000 rounds of 9mm that I have reloaded and enjoyed every minute of it.
Hey, has anyone ever spread 35,000 rounds of reloaded ammo on their bed and rolled around naked on top of it?..........ummmmm, me neither! LoL

I'm embarassed to admit that I am confused. Should I try whistling next time I am cleaning my guns or when I am having sex with my wife?

I use Crazy Glue with the brush applicator... and I use the surgical gloves, too. My thumbs get really bad sometimes... the drying cracks! The glue sure doesn't last long, though!
