Who cares, just steal the lumber from your rich neighbor's property. He won't have a gun to stop you, and the President says it's OK anyway cuz it's redistributing the wealth.

Once I steal the lumber, do I have to do anything with it? I could cut it with a hammer or bang some screws in it with a saw.

PS. Remember when there was shop class?

Sometimes I look at my Granddaughter and a tear comes to my eyes. She'll look back one day a wonder why there parents and grandparents through them under the bus. We as a nation should be ashamed of ourselves. Many got fat and happy depending on the Govt for everything. Only problem is as a nation we lost our spine as well as our freedoms somewhere along the way.

My big project was a large wooden ashtray made of several different pieces of wood glued together that I turned down on a lathe... a nice looking wooden ASHTRAY.

I also learned to work leather and had all the tools, which I was encouraged to give to my younger brother for his class. I can still remember doing that!

Muggsy, great post. I came across a 1920's era 8th grade graduation exam that was mandatory to pass or you didn't graduate 8th grade. It had far ranging questions and story problems on it that would choke most current college grads. No "social promotions" back then. The US is truly dumbed down now.

There is a fine line between teaching common sense and the ability to think critically vs book knowledge, knowing facts and figures, and actual skills/trades.

The public education system in this country does NEITHER anymore.

if u go to enough fast food restaurants, ur gonna find a clerk who is mentally challendged to be able to make change. One reason today why cash registers do all the thinking for them IF THEY HAVE THE BRAINS TO PUNCH IN THE RIGHT FIGURES. I have seen some stand there like oh oh, WTF did this customer just do to me..
