One of the world’s biggest gun makers is threatening to move its Maryland manufacturing plant –
along with roughly 400 jobs –
as Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley pushes one of the most ambitious gun-control agendas in the country.

Beretta already moved some of it's warehouse facilities to Fredericksburg, Va. I hope they bring the rest over here too. Maybe LWRC, in Cambridge, Md will follow Beretta and leave a very unfriendly business environment.

They need to go ahead and leave. MD is no friend to firearms except for Joe ****** that likes double barrels for 2 warning shots before you turn and run.

As a former resident, we used to call it "the people's republic of Maryland".

Being as Maryland just passed the gun control laws for the state today, I'll really be interested if Beretta really does move. Reason being, Beretta USA doesn't call the shots for the company. Beretta does and they are based in Italy. From my understanding of the home office, they really don't care about our politics nor really even like America. They are concerned about our $$$, though.

With the M9 being the standard issue US military sidearm they really aren't overly concerned about sales to the civilian market, or so I'm told. Yes, they are a major player in this country but civilian sales are not their primary profit maker here.

I'll be watching to see how this plays out.

Here's another story with a different take on how important the Beretta family takes this event.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/berettas-future-in-maryland-tied-to-states-gun-control-debate/2013/02/23/bcc56c62-7776-11e2-95e4-6148e45d7adb_story_1.html

In it Beretta is quoted as being very concerned, both with the politics and the money. Beretta already punished Maryland once. With the looming introduction of their new "assault rifle", they may well ask why they stay in a infriendly area.

Here's a quote from the story. "The company’s Italian patriarch, Ugo Gussalli Beretta, visited the plant shortly after O’Malley introduced his gun-control bill, and the two discussed the issue. But Reh declined to say if the two reached any decisions about what would happen if the governor’s bill passes.

“All I can tell you is, Mr. Beretta said, ‘There always seems to be a problem with Maryland.’ ”

And there's this.
"The assault-weapons ban isn’t the only part of the governor’s bill Beretta dislikes.

In Maryland, gun manufacturers are required to register as firearms dealers, which some say could expose the company to lawsuits for selling and shipping weapons as dealers do. The Senate Judiciary Committee, which passed the governor’s bill 7 to 4 late Thursday, spelled out an exemption for Beretta and a handful of other smaller manufacturers in the state.

But the company said it is still not clear how it would handle warranty and repair issues for its many lines of guns, which are also serviced in Accokeek. The bill does not specify if the company could charge to fix guns that would be deemed illegal for sale, or if it could legally ship them back to their owners. Lawmakers said intermediary gun dealers would likely have to facilitate the transactions."

More going on than ambitious politicians making stupid moves for their own aggrandizement. Move Beretta, move!;)

Can someone please explain to me how the party of the conservative, religious, working man became the party of the liberal, sacrilegious, near-do-wells? It beats the excrement out of me. The most terrifying words to me are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." Like the song says, " Bring dynamite and a crane. Blow it up, start all over again." I living in a world that I no longer understand.

Beretta is always welcome to relocate in Texas. As a matter of fact, I could find them a perfect location in one of my small city's Industrial Developments

We also have a pretty good workforce (quite a few machine shops/machinists here in the oil patch) as well as training facilities in the area that would set up curriculum for their individual employee training needs.

Actually that offer stands for any/all firearms related manufacturers that would consider NE Texas.

Tx is pushing to get more and more manufacturers in. It's rumored that Magpul may come. I love this place.

I work pretty closely with our city economic development corp. on many projects. If I thought there would be even a remote possibility that any of these manufacturers would consider a move here, I would be all over it.

I'm a Maryland resident and I hate to see the loss of jobs, but I hope they do move. The President of the Senate, Mike Miller, has Beretta in his district, but he's still shepherding this horrible bill through the Senate.

Send them my phone number and I'll hook them up with my local economic development corp director. Within a matter of hours, we could find them a spot here. But, they'd have to learn to speak Texan.

And leave the politics of where they came from behind. Too often people flee one "utopian paradise", then start voting for the same crap they left behind.

which is exactly why I disagreed with Gov Perry's invition to all those other "big" businesses from kalifornia, new york, and every other commie state to relocate to Texas. I said the same thing on another site concerning my reservations about the "invite", and got smacked by a few "transplants".

And people wonder why I say liberalism is a mental disorder.

I hope Beretta moves.
