Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City , N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.
The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties..
The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.
"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation."
The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.
In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do as I say and not as I do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.
It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can.

I do not have a log in to NRA pvf so can't check snopes on that.

AH but how did he vote as far as gun rights are concerned? According to what I find he voted for gun rights about 65%... but I aint found that much nor looked that hard.
I think he should have allowed himself to be done in by the bad guy.....standing up for his principles.

I know it's an old story, but there must be more to it. Why would he be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, if they were kickin' his door in & he plead guilty to a misdemeanor.

Soles's overall lifetime rating from the NRA was an A. His lowest rating from the NRA was a B+. He wasn't anti-gun. He was, however, an accused pedophile.

eww, I'd rather have a poor rating from NRA than be accused of a being a pediophile.
A member of my old Shriner pistol team asked me to share that. So I did. Old or not, If he voted only 65% with the NRA, that means he voted 35% against us, that's puts him in the anti-gun camp in my book. Don't care what the NRA says his rating is. Didn't they back Harry Reid in his primary?
So an overall voting record of 65% pro gun votes, vs 35% anti-gun votes gets you a lifetime A with the NRA? That sounds messed up.

65% was a "D" where I went to school. Guess I need to lower my standards.

The following is being copied verbatim from the pages of the American Rifleman an official publication of the NRA.
Here's What the Ratings Mean:
Ratings and endorsements are based solely on a candidates support of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and do not take into consideration a candidate's position on other unrelated issues.
A+ A legislator with not only an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues, but who has also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.
A. Solidly pro-gun candidate. A candidate who has supported NRA positions on key votes in elective office or a candidate with a demonstrated record of support on Second Amendment issues.
B. A generally pro-gun candidate. However, a "B" candidate may oppose some some pro-gun reform or support some restrictive legislation.
C. Not necessarily a passing grade. A candidate with a mixed record or positions on gun related issues, who may oppose some pro-gun positions or support some restrictive legislation.
D. An anti-gun candidate who usually supports restrictive gun control legislation and opposes pro gun reforms. Regardless of public statements, can usually be counted on
to vote wrong on key issues.
F. True enemy of gun owners' rights. A consistent anti-gun candidate who always opposes gun owners' rights and/or actively leads anti-gun legislative efforts, or sponsors anti-gun legislation.
