The other night I took the firing pin and extractor out of my slide to clean everything because I got my gun a little wet. I never payed any attention before, but now I can move the ejector out away from the slide and it doesn't want to go back in on it's on, you have to push it. Is this how it's supposed to be? I racked a few rounds through the gun and it slings them all out, but I want just wondering.

Being able to move it out away from the slide against spring pressure is normal, it shouldn't be easy, take some effort. Not going back in by itself is not normal. Did you get the extractor, plunger, spring and rod all back in in the correct order? Or perhaps the rod directly behind the extractor isn't quite aligned to marry up correctly. Should be able to see that even all put together. The rod is kind of cut at an angle to mate up to the extractor. All I can think of. The flinging out is the ejector, but the extractor has to hold on long enough to toss the cases.

The extractor is a four piece assembly;

1) the extactor

2) the long, tapered end pin

3) the spring

4) then last, the short pin.

These parts go together in that order, and as said the long pin with the tapered end must be oriented correctly, nested with the taper snug against the extractor, and visible at the rear of the setractor when assembled.

When assembled the ejector is pretty tight and hard to move manually.
