hey guys im new to this forum and i have a question about the p40. i have owned the p45 before and unfortunately had to sell it to fund another purchase and i have regretted it since the day that i sold it. bar none the best carry pistol i have owned. so since then i have been carrying my sig 229 equinox in a leather iwb holster which is not really too uncomfortable but also not very concealable in a t shirt. and seeing as how the hot weather is coming on i need another kahr. my question is how snappy is the recoil on the p40? i was pleased with how my p45 shot and i had no complaints about its recoil. i just know that with .40 s&w being a high pressure cartridge i am wondering of the recoil will be more snappy. if it is then i will just buy another p45 but i really wanted the .40 to keep the ammo the same as my sig. thanks for all of the help in this area.

Hi trevman, welcome friend....This is a great forum for any and all questions about anything Kahr...Everyone has a different opinion about recoil...I have a CW40 and love it...I had never fired a .40 cal before getting the little CW but am used to shooting 1911 .45 and .44 mag/special so recoil doesn't really bother me that much but the first time I fired the .40 I was surprised at the muzzle flip more so than the .45 which seems to have more of a rearward push at least to me....I really liked the CW40 and wanted to make it work...The main reason I wanted a .40 cal was for ammo availability...I could always find .40 cal when nothing else was in stock.....To solve the problem I decided to send it off to Mag-na-Port which made the pistol a dream to shoot, about 40% less muzzle flip now and easy to get back on target for a fast 2nd shot...I don't work for Mag-na-Port but have had two other pistols ported by them and it worked as advertised....They do excelent work for a good price and the finished porting looks really nice...Hope this helps and perhaps others will add their opinions....Again welcome aboard!...

wow thanks for the insight, recoil is not an issue for me either as far as being able to handle it(im 6 1" 240) so im a big guy and that issue doesnt bother me. what i was concerned about is the follow up shots and being able to get back on target. i have been shooting .40 for a long time and have owned multiple hk's and sigs in that caliber and they are a joy to shoot i was just concerned with the smaller gun and all. but like i said i have owned a p45 and i didnt think that it was bad at all. i actually was very pleased with my follow up shots out of my p45. thanks for the magnaport advice as well i will check into it.

Since you had a P45 and liked it, I'd stick with it. I have a K40 and I love it, but it does buck a bit. As mentioned above the 45 isn't nearly the jolt. I was gonna swap out my K40 for a PM45 but decided to hang on to it. I'll just add the PM45 when the planets align, wifes in the right mood, and my stimulus check arrives. Yeah right!. This is not to say that the 40 wouldn't work for you if you really want it too. I just went and reread, see your trying to stay with the same ammo. Good thought, maybe sell the sig and get a 220? Not helping huh?

I have a P40 also I found the recoil was not as bad as I thought. I had it mag-na-ported and I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I will try to get to the range this week and report back. I can say one thing the turn-around was super fast I think it took a week total. maga-port was fast! I sent just the barrel and slide USPS prioity mail in the small box for $4.95

:) OK, c,mon guy's. There is just way to much whining on here about 40 s&w. ( IMO). I had a P40 covert which had shorter grips than the standard P. I shot it just fine. Everything is gonna kick a little.(except maybe 22"s ). NONE of these little KAHR pistols are gonna be comfortable if you shoot a bunch of rounds thru them all at one time. They were'nt designed for that either. They are GREAT CCW"s. Think about their main purpose{SELF DEFENSE}. In a bad situation 40 is a damn good round. 9mm is a damn good round, and so is 45.

Pick the one you want to bet your life on.

After you stop the threat. You can go get your "comfortable to shoot " gun and, pop holes in the bad guy until the cops get there and ask you to stop.:D

True unless the little beast is so nasty that you don't want to practice with it to any meaningful extent. Granted you can practice the correct things with a larger more comfortable type gun and then apply best your able to the little one. Certainly don't have to shoot it alot but you still got to have it in you head what it's gonna do, so your not thinking of it. I do like the idea of fetching the comfortable to shoot gun and popping holes till the cops get there.

young, there is no whining coming from this end of the pond just a simple question about a product that i have not had a chance to use yet. as previously mentioned i am not concerned about the recoil for discomfort purposes but rather for follow up shot and accuracy purposes i think that you just mis-understood the reason for the question and thanks for the info about the .40 covert.

The 40 S&W is a great round just a little harder for some to master myself included not "afraid" of the recoil I just can't shoot it as accurate as a 45 or 9mm
