Recent full moon keeping me awake. That and the usual antisipation of delivery= early morning research. black oxide or blue?
http://pics.gunbroker.com/GB/330011000/330011804/pix760995030.jpg
Jan. 1995 K9 on the way. sold as "carbon steel blue", pics appear as though actually might be, or not.
I currently understand that these early versions came with a black oxide finish, of course there is that 50/50 chance that I don't know everything I think I know.
Question this morning.......Were any of the early K9's originally blued as new? Spose I could just email Kahr with the ?
Could be a re-do. Roll marks/stampings don't appear filled. Looks pretty ok to me!

u hae a carbon steel lack oxide version. Looks really in good condition. Most of the carbon steel were all black oxide or they would have othyer wise looked like crapola. Take care of it, it will serve u well. The flat side frame tells me it is a carbon steel version ad lack of any stamping that says stainless. We have quite a few members who have the early version and no complaints from them..
u say redo. I am not sure kahr does refinishing on their guns. At least I ahve never heard of it of late. Not that anutter finisher could not do black oxide, but more than likely ur K is all original and in that good of condition.
No doubt the carbo steel versions are gonna show wear faster than the stainless finish or the dlc finish, they are notmch different than a good blued gun that in use will just show wear. Holsters are not the kindest to blued finished guns, but it is what it is.:Amflag2:

Maybe it's the angle of the picture...but the "Kahr Arms, Worcester, MA" looks newer than what you're describing. I say that because the older ones I've seen, it looks like it's been carved in with an electric pencil.....not roll marked in like the newer ones. Again, maybe it's just the angle of the picture....

Here's my '96 K9 with the same wood grips, (though mine didn't have niffty aftermarket screws). Your pistol looks so good that my first thought was that it looks to be refinished.

I'd agree. It looks a bit different than some I've seen, and different from mine. Curious.

Ripley's is a good example of what'd expect on the older frame as far as the lettering goes.

My stainless K9 from March '98 has the same writing as Ripley's.

correct me if I am wrong but when they went to the scalloped frame like yours wyn, they were then all stainless. Now they did make some nickel finish early carbon steel versions back then but I think also they were all the non scalloped frames.
Are not allthe stainless versionsstamped stainless also???? Just sayin:Amflag2: and if they are not stamped stainless would it not be right to assume then it is not stainless..

Mine is stamped stainless on the right side, as are my DLC ones.
Scalloped frame??

Okay... I see the "ledge" curvy area that's thinner from the back of the trigger guard and going around the right side of the writing now... thinner to get rid of excess metal and weight.

tellmeI am just dreamin but did I read somewhere, maybe even on this forum where kahr supposably found some carbon steel kahrs in old stock inventory and decided to sell them as carbon steel kahrs.
I amnot sure of any of this either, as I do dream alot, expecially after a few shots of dago red.:Amflag2:

Well now? The other images of this same item; both sides of frame make it pretty clear that the frame is stamped and not engraved, Go figure.
Kahr dated it as Jan. 1995.
Maybe like the ol 1909 SVDB penny? Takin offers. :+)

maybe more than one maching that puts the name of kahr on their guns to. I would certaily think stamped would be faster than machine engraved and going back 15+ years, hard tellin what was popular in use back then.:Amflag2:

Outdoors until dark thirty, doing the chores.
What came to mind was that song Mr. Cash did about being an autoworker and building a car from parts carried out in the lunch box over the years.
I'll email the nice guy @ Kahr soon to request his opinion about that early stamp/roll mark.
Red is good! Just don't cause any trouble! :+)
Be well all and thanks for the education and fun this week!
