I found out today that FedEx will not ship handguns or handgun parts.
I have used them in the past. I am not a dealer and wanted to ship a pistol to the manufacturer. This is legal by state and federal law.

This came direct from a center manager. I used UPS.

I've used both in the past. I never had a problem because I use the 'don't ask, don't tell' method.

I shipped my gun for warranty service using Fed Ex Jan 9 2013???
(Arsenal SLR-106U 5.56 Pistol)
Must be a recent change.
I told them what it was and insured it too.
Had to go priority air next day.
Cost me ~$200.
But I got a spanking new, flawless, replacement pistol.
So I couldn't be happier.

I've used UPS too for parts.
The satellite stores will not do it.
You have to go to a hub.
But they will receive guns???
Really doesn't make sense to me.

A communicable disease is supposed to make me happy?
It's not like the good old days Jocko.
The stuff out there today doesn't go away with penicillin.

$200 was for shipping, warranty was free.
I choose to go over night, next day 10:30 AM, from east to west coast.
Arsenal did me right.

Not a gun or gun part but I received a shipment of ammo through them about a month or so ago. Wonder if they are still delivering that?

I just called my Fed Ex office in Tampa where I shipped my gun
for warranty service.
They verified that they absolutely will ship guns.

FedEx Office Print & Ship Center
101 S Dale Mabry Hwy
Tampa, FL 33609
(813) 876-7011

I'm formally calling shenanigans.

I think it's some of the outer offices that do this we won't ship stuff.

Non dealers do have to do overnight though. I don't think you have a choice. UPS is usually even worse than Fed EX.

We have a UPS store that refuses to ship guns, but a few blocks down there is a mail box store that ships anyway you want Fed Ex, UPS, PP whatever and they will ship guns UPS overnight.

Go figure.

Warranty specifically states you pay for shipping to them.
And they pay for return shipping.
I knew that going in and don't think it's an unusual practice.

They did exactly what they said they would.
And stood behind their product.

I actually just requested a repaired gun to feed hollow points.
And got a newer flawless replacement pistol instead.

That's more than doing me right in my book.
How often have you had a FTF gun replaced with a new one without even asking?

Ours in Iowa will ship long guns but not handguns or gun parts. First hand info from their desk. They told me to try another shipper. I went to UPS and they shipped it . If there are any shenanigans , they are not from me.

News to me - typically FDX in my area will overnight ship handgun to warranty station in CONUS for about $35. Rifles I ship UPS for about $25 to warranty station. $200 bucks would choke me up for the week.

That cost was insane.
I'm sure I could have shipped much much cheaper.
It was 8 PM in Florida with guaranteed delivery to Las Vegas by 10:30 PST
the next day.
This was just before the Shot Show and during the crazy.
I wanted to make a statement.

I got a new replacement gun in about two weeks.
And it kicks Ars.

I bought my gun NIB for $862.
And the same exact gun is at my LGS for $1299 + tax.

My point Barth is this, not tha tu got a new gun,u didn't expect that and for some reason they gave u a new gun that is great, now whatif this gun acted up.wouldu feel good about paying anutter $200 to send back a new gun. I know I would not. Just my two cents. They took cae of u as they shold to,they made it,they should fix it one way or the other. Aslongas ur the hapy camper that is also what matters not what I or others say here. So I am not here to argue with u, either...

UPS requires that ammo or guns go through their Customer Service Centers staffed with UPS personnel. FedEx is the same way but charges hazardous cargo fees for ammo, while UPS doesn't. You can't take them to some "Store" or franchise like the UPS Store or Kinkos. Guns and ammo have to be handed to UPS or FedEx employees at their centers... OR to the company truck drivers.

That's why I arranged pickup with returns to Kahr by FedEx(on Kahr's dime) and by UPS when I dabbled in selling ammo very briefly.

We need to make this a sticky or something.

FedEx and UPS charge $50+ for overnight air, and you have to go to a distribution center to ship your gun because the local stores won't do it.

There is no need to use either of those thieving companies to ship a gun!

This is THE WAY to ship guns:

My FFL, who charges me a reasonable $20 to recieve a gun, will charge me just $10 plus the cost of insured shipping by USPS (about $17) to send a pistol anywhere, whether to another FFL to complete a sale, a manufacturer for repair or a custom shop. He is allowed to send by USPS, although we are forbidden.

Another bit of advice. Don't use a local gun store as your FFL. They will overcharge you. My FFL is the owner of a jewelry store and a Radio Shack which is also a UPS shipping point that are side by side in the same building (which I think he owns), and he does the FFL service as well. His store is 1/4 mile from me. To find an FFL like this, use one of the online FFL search engines, call several on the phone and ask about their prices and whether they will ship guns for you using USPS like mine does. He's a good guy and I don't need to go anywhere else for FFL or shipping service! :)

I've never been asked by either FedX or UPS. I just don't volunteer the information. The last two guns I shipped, I just used my FFL. They do it for their cost, $10 to $12, because I've given them so much business. BTW, they use UPS and the driver certainly knows what's in the boxes.

I think that there were three different levels of overnight shipping with FedEx... the most costly was the next morning. I used the next day... Kahr's cost... and I think there was a third, but afternnon delivery was soon enough... costing Kahr about $28 when I was able to compare side-by-side what MY cost would have been... more like $62... for the second fastest overnight method. I never used UPS for guns, but did use them for ammo... made up my own ORM small arms labels by copying the ones I had received or off the Internet. My scanned or photo'd ones were better, so I used them.

This is great advice! I tried to ship a gun via FedEx at a store last week and they wanted $137!!!!! For a handgun!!!! I went to my FFL and he charged me $25. I love my FFL. He is a great guy that runs a business out of his home. He also usually only charges me $17.50 for any transfers.
