View Full Version : Do I really need another gun right now?

Seriously.
Given all of the shortages, I have been fortunate to find in 2013 - and acquire - two very nice guns (not Kahrs) that I have wanted for some time. But I have not shot them yet.
Despite hanging out here in the Kahr forum, I still only have one Kahr, a MK9 Elite. It's really nice, but for me, it's too heavy to be an EDC gun, so I have had my eye on a lighter-weight version such as a PM9.
One is available to me now, but I just haven't mustered the desire to actually get it.
With the ammo shelves empty at the stores, I'm less interested in expending much of my own precious supply.
So I'm having real trouble spending any more money on guns at the moment - even ones that I want - since I am reluctant to shoot them.
Am I alone?

Yes, well at least in my case.....lol. the only problem I have been having is finding enough cash to buy what I want and finding what I want. In all seriousness though I can walk into the local gun store and buy any ammo I want other than. 22 LR which may play into my willingness to keep buying.

Yes, you are alone.
I'm shooting weekly and blasting away range ammo.
My new SLR-106U 5.56 pistol will run fine on $11 a box PMC .223 I can get at the range.
My TAP T2 and SSA TSX ammo stays loaded. And my case of M855 penetrators remains untouched.
I was squeezing off rounds 12 hours ago.

Me too. Function test by clearing my carry ammo every two months and a few mags of fmj, clean, reload carry. Move along.

I'm with you. I did buy another gun in January (and I do want another one) but I'm debating do I want to shoot my ammo supply, do I want to get a gun I can't get a lot of ammo for, or do I want to buy more ammo. One thing is I have seen .45 ammo for sale and it's only gone up about 25%.
I have decided to buy more gun magazines though (the paper reading type, not the ammo type). It's cheaper than a gun and ammo, and also gas to get to the range. Only thing is it makes me want to get another gun when I see one in the magazine LOL :D

I just bought a new 22 rifle and have been burning thru my old stock of 22 ammo I had for my Walther P22 (sold). Been doing a little 9mm shooting but waiting to see it start to be more 'regular' at the stores before I burn thru my stockpile of range ammo too quickly.
Still on the hunt for guns that interest me. By standardizing on 9mm, I don't feel that buying more is really an issue in regard to the current frenzy (other than the price). I'll have ammo to shoot in it. I think if I were expanding my 'caliber library', I'd probably agree more that maybe I don't NEED another new gun right now.
Hopefully this pain subsides soon. Finding 22 right now is going to be a challenge after I shoot this small stockpile up.

I never never let a lack need get in the way of want. You can always find a need after you make your purchase. :)

How many guns do you need? Just one more.

I just need 4 more. I know exactly which ones they are, and then I'm done.
That's what I tell my wife anyway...

We all know you are a liar.

Liar is such a 'strong' term :lie: I prefer to think of it as bending the truth. It's 4 right now. I make no claim to what happens when 1 of the 4 gets bought and another gets added. That's still 4 by my counting method.
And yes...she does.

Lots of interesting replies here, and a variety of opinions as would be expected. I'm sure there are some people who only have a couple guns, and some who might have many dozens.
Every time I get a new gun, it doesn't really cure the desire, and pretty soon the "itch" is starting again. How long can this go on? Until I am broke, divorced, or a star on "Hoarders" (because of a house so filled with guns that you can't even walk through it)?
I'm *down* to maybe 3 guns (or 5 or 6) that I would really like to get, if and when they become available and I have the cash.
I admit that I like the idea of owning a gun as much as shooting it, and that is part of my problem.
But at the moment, the thing that is weighing on me is lack of ammo. Maybe it would be like finding that sports car of one's dreams, and having the cash to buy it, but finding gas costs $25/gal - if you can even find it. You could put the new car in your garage but not be able to use it.
Well, I'm pretty sure that if I find any of my current short list, I'll probably "spend again", but I'm seriously thinking of holding back for a while now.

I've found that with age the new gun fix (think crack) doesn't last nearly as long.
I only sleep with it for 2 or 3 nights, fondle it 24/7 for a few days and then it takes it's place in the toy box. Sometimes unfired.
I have lots of guns I've never shot, just a pleasure to own them and I plan to shoot them some day.
I'd love to be on hoarders with so many guns you can't walk thru the house. I'd wear that as a badge of honor.
Seriously.

I can relate to Quercus' and Bawanna's last post more than I want to admit. Every one I buy is the last one I need. Until I get it and clean it then I need another one.

I've come to face the fact I really don't need any more guns.
But I want them.

Oh, wow, I can SO relate to this! I thought it was just some secret disease of mine of which I should be ashamed, in private, but now I know that I am not alone. Maybe I can come out of the closet now!
The "gun fondle" thing ... mmmmm....
I need help.
And now, back to more fondling.

My wife always asks me why I have a gun in my hand when I have one in my hand.
