Well my sight installation tools came in Monday and I started tinkering a bit after midnight, I guess.
I ordered the sights from the Glock Store in San Diego and they debited my CC on the 15th, but didn't ship until the 28th... never told me a thing about delayed shipping or that that had finally shipped. I emailed twice with no answer, but they're finally here.
I watched Magill's video on the use of the "Sight Master" and it seemed like it was going to be a piece of cake. I knew the front sight wouldn't be a problem and the Front Sight Take Down Tool is a must with the 3/16" thin-walled socket for the hex-head screw that holds the sight on. The factory sight screw was a little closer to the front of the frame, but the tool worked fine. The Trijicon screw is a little further back with a tad more room. I left the FS alone until I got the rear on... less chance of damage.
The Sight Master works but it could be better. I couldn't use the slanted side of the pusher as much as I would have liked. I tried to take it off by backing the large bolt out, but the last 1/2" or so is too hard... buggered a bit to keep it on I guess. So I had to use the straight part on the very bottom of the side that fits into the dove tail. I had to use my flat whetstone a lot to take some material off the front base side and some off the bottom. It was a real b!tch to get in and I had to make half a dozen or more attempts before I finally got that danged thing in. I don't seem to have damaged anything and the next time will be easier. The rear sight "foot" is a LOT bigger than it needs be and I had to really work at getting it in the dovetail, so I DON'T expect it to FALL OUT... even if you hit it with a BFH!
The front was much easier and I used a little medium strength thread locker from the China Store.:D There is a little wiggle room before you screw in the hexhead screw, so you might have to loosen it and reposition the FS.
I took some pictures in the light and in the dark, trying to focus on the front and then the rear sights. One thing I did notice was that the orange outlined front sight doesn't seem to be as bright as the yellow-outlined ones on my XD45. The orange is darker, I guess. I'll have to wait until I get to the range to see how these work. i think I got them on pretty straight... using the TLAR method.
First picture is the "old" Glock sights... plastic with a little metal in the rear sight. Second is the Glock FS Take Down Tool with the 3/16" socket on one end and the punch on the other. Then from the front and the rear with focus on the rear, then the front.
