Well I finally got the CM9 home yesterday after getting it added to my permit (New York thing). I am loving it. I can get the same thumbs forward grip on this little pistol that I can on my Sig SP2022, amazing. Gun is small as heck but feelings big (if that makes any sense). I did notice that it is impossible to get a combat grip on it from my IWB High Noon Mr.Softy holster so its def a deep concealment type gun which is excatly what I got it for.
I came home cracked open the additional magazine I purchased. One of the mags though I can only load 5 rounds into it. I am assuming it will break itself in after time and take down is a pain. Those are the only 2 negatives I have so far on the gun.
I added the Talon Grips sand paper grips to it (2nd gun I have the talon grips on and LOVE IT). The gun feels like it is glued into my hand with these Talon grips.
Lastly I added the crimson trace to my CM9. I had to adjust the windage to the left but the elevation was spot on.
This gun really when purchased the idea was for it to be a summer gunto be used when making quick runs to the store or when I have sweat pants on, cargo shorts or I just need a pistol for deep concealment.
i found last summer I was leaving my gun home ALLOT when going out because I either was wearing clothes that I couldnt wear my full sized gun with or it was just a hassle to have a large gun on me. That's a problem and I was leaving my gun home more and more and more as the summer went on. I promised myself I would get a pocket pistol before next summer and I did.
I was trying to fin the perfect pocket pistol and I finally have. It took me 8 months to finally decide on one. It needs to be small, light, in 9mm or .45 (since I already have those calibers), have the right sights, no mag release safety and no external safety. Choices were narrowed to.
-Kel-tec PF9
-SCCY CPX2
-Kahar CM9
-Taurus 709 Silm
I shot the PF9 in the past and did not find it jumpy at all. It actually shot well and I probably would have went with it since it would have been well over 100.00 less than the Kahr but I was looking for the two tone verison which my gun shop did not have. I am not one to jump and buy a gun it has to be near perfect.
The CPX2 looked like the perfect gun to me. It was two tone, held 10 rounds (the most out of all the guns I was considering) and have pretty godo reviews. Only thing my LGS did not have one for me to hold so that was out also I read it was nearly the same size as Kel-Tecs P11 and the P11 did not fit into my pocket whatsoever, so that was out.
The 709 slim felt VERY good in my hand. But again it was good large for pocket carry. It was light enough but it is not a pocket carry gun (this also can be said for the Ruger LC9 which I liked nothing about at all).
This leaves me with the CM9. Gun felt perfect in my hand....feels beyond perfect with the talon grips. Gun is built tight as all hell and the reviews have been nothing short of great. Adding the crimson trace grips leavesme to say this could double as a fighting pistol even though it only holds 6 rounds + 1 standard. The only other mods I plan on doing are changing the front sight to a green fiber and the rear sight to 2 dot sights.
I feel the CM9 is at the top of the food change for pocket pistols. I have held or shot the Kimber Solo or S&W Shield so I cant speak on them but man this gun is awesome for the price.
Thanks for reading.
