I decided it would be fun to start learning how to use paracord, so today I made a sling for my 597. Here's some pics of it. :33:

Sweet. I've often wished I knew how to do that. I see people at gunshows making bracelets and all sorts of stuff at their tables.
Be pretty cool to know how to do that.
I'm not ashamed to admit I can knit and crochet or at least I have a LOT. Probably need a refresher since it's been awhile.
Don't have clue how to do that though.
Neat application.

Bawanna, I just watched some YouTube videos on Paracord weaving. I used the Cobra Weave, and once you get going on it it's pretty simple, just time consuming. Good luck if you decide to give it a go.

Have you tried using that sling when shooting? If so how well does it work?

Well I was gonna have him make ya some to hang from your handle bars rather then them girlie man strings hanging down blowing in the wind.
Probably won't do it now, ya offended him.
You greasy bikers are all alike.
Same address on Trigger. Oh wait I already have Trigger, maybe Secretariat, still got him on ice?
I'm gonna find me some para cord and give it a go, something to do this summer while you guys are all outside playing and I'm here all alone with no one to powerwhine too.

yea whe4n u get done with the Para chochet thing, jump out of a plane with it and let me know how it does. What is the name of ur crochet club u belong to U could call ur group the chariots and u could put some playing cards in ur spokes wheels and u would be the grand poobah, sorta. Just sayin U could crochet one of those para things and make u a seat for ur chariot so when u pass gas , it would have a place to escape quickly, so as to not make people in the malls pas sout. Just sayin

T, I like that, you wanna make one in OD for my AR15?
Or you could make one for jocko to lock his Pee Wee Herman bicycle to the lightpost! [ducks and runs]

I tried it tonight, works well. Would work better when not wearing a heavy winter coat, but as long as I pull far enough forward it comes up no problem.

You do nice work I'll give you that. I used to do those sort of things with rope ,cords ,and twine back in my Navy days. Unfortunately,to many years and to many beers have taken there toll.:o

Nice.
To the two power whiners here, lay off chumps. I know men that make their own clothes to use for Mountain Man recreations and such, as well as their gear to include woven straps. Matter of fact my uncle just made a strap for his wife's purse. He also taught me what little I know about leather work. If it works, great, if it works like a real sling to shoot with, mores the better. That's a good skill to have.

u should realize that I was only funnin the maker of the para cord. It is nice work. there is a big difference in the Mt. Men clothing authenticity as u well know though. Just sayin..:israel:
I can't picutre that hanging off the waist of a Mt. Man either, unless he has a very "high" pitch voice..:Amflag2:

What made you think you were one of the powerwhiners? Guilty conscious?
I'm gonna get me some cord. My wife is pretty good at knitting and crocheting and that stuff, maybe between utube and her they can teach me to do technical stuff like that.
I got one of the bracelets made just like that sling style but darned if I can figure how they made it. Like to make myself a little bit smaller one, slightly too big, moves around to much.
Thought about maybe a bee sting to swell it up some but I hate bee's and not too many about right now which is good, I hate bee's.

was not to hard to figure but that OK. I still think it is pussyiest. Doesn't mean it is bad, just not sumpin in my upscale lifestyle.U know we Harley riders do have some pride and a para cord hanging off my bars would get me run out of Sturgis big time, but more than likely this crochets would go over bi g at the annual Gold Whiners WING DING. U should set up a booth there colonel with Jlottmc and u two could make afortune. Just sayin. they like pink alot, so I hear..
One has to have a conscious to have a guilty conscious:amflag:

Nice job - you did great work. I just watched a youtube on making paracord knife handles and it looked like it is a good skill to acquire. This reminds me of scout camp as a kid and making the boondoogle things. With that much paracord on your shotgun you are ready incase of an emergency that requires cord.

I believe that in the Navy they refer to that as fancy work. Ya had to be a boatswain's mate or gay to do it. Just kiddin'. Looks great. Jocko's jealous 'cause he has five thumbs on each hand. :)

I was a Boatswains Mate.:D In my younger days before I made petty officer that sort of work with ropes and cords saved me from having to chip a lot of paint. All it took was one day on a air powered neddle gun to know you didn't want to do that all day. They did however one time con me into painting the numbers on the bow and the anchors . Not wanting to Highjack the thread. That's a story for another time.:D

That's ok, Popeye, Boatswains Mates are forgiven of all sins when they pass through them pearly gates. Machinest Mates and BT's have already spent their time in hell. :)

That's for sure I never envied you guys down in the hole. Times might have gotten tough up on the boat deck from time to time but for the most part man at least we had fresh air.

Tyranta, you're a stinker! I had to go and try that one day while I was bored, now I'm actually going to try to do a sling for my AR!

Me too. I had to really hunt for a video to slowly walk me thru it. I found a good one. I still don't grasp how they figure how much you need for length etc but after 4 attempts I made a bracelet that actually fits.
Pretty cool. Might try a sling for my Ranch Hand.

Tyranta, I like the paracord thing. Useful stuff.
Oh, and Bawanna, Just wait till Jocko gets so old he has to have training wheels for that harley. He wont be able to say crap about you then.
Jocko, it's all good though. I'll still vote for you for President. We need a straight talker in the office. You let me down in 2012 when you didn't run for office.

Deacon, The best number I've found for estimating length is 1 foot/inch with the normal cobra weave. Beyond that I don't really know as I'm still learning myself. Good luck with your sling!

Let me clarify that last post...the one foot to one inch is an inch of the doubled length, ie you want a 50" sling, you'd need 100" for your inside cord and 50' for your outside. I can't make any guarantees but I can try to post some pics later this week.
