My MK9 now has a new little brother to keep him company.
Little PM9 arrived on 3/12/13 weighing 16.85 oz with empty 6-rd mag. Baby and father are doing fine.
I have been wanting a "lightweight" MK9 for some now, and finally decided to do it.
Having been used to the width of the MK9 with wood grips, I was immediately amazed by how slim the PM9 felt. The perceived weight difference between the 2 is not as much as I was hoping for though.
Besides the obvious difference in materials between the 2, there are a few other minor differences, some of which might be due to changes over time:
- Note how the rear sight on the PM9 has a white dot, while the identical rear sight on the MK9 lacks the dot (although has a groove there).
- The boxes (not pictured) are identical on the outside, but the new PM9 came with a molded plastic insert while the older MK9 had a foam insert with cutouts.
- The guide rod (also not pictured) is metal on the PM9, while the much pricier MK9 came with a plastic one. I still can't figure that out.
Just so the new addition won't go hungry, I was lucky enough to get him some new food. When I stopped by the local farm store yesterday they had gotten quite a pile of Blazer Brass 9mm in 350-rd boxes, so that worked out well. Hoping for an opportunity to try out the new guy this weekend, to compare with his older brother.
