View Full Version : Anyone heard of this happening- frame melt from shooting?

On another forum, I saw someone claim : " I noticed one day after an extensive shooting secession with the Kahr CW9 that the rails had melted some from the heat of consistent shooting."

Now, he did not understand the operation of the steel inserts in the front of the frame, but that's not really the issue here.

I have not heard of anyone claiming this regarding any polymer-framed guns, Kahrs or other make.

Have any of you?

Mods- noticed I posted in wrong forum, not sure if that's relevant to the question. Please move if necessary, thank you.

I think the idiot mistook the normal gap between the slide and the frame as a "heat melting" and started this rumor out of ignorance. Khars and all other brands do not melt by shooting.

Never heard of any such thing. I don't see how it could happen shooting normally.
I suppose if you have a boatload of magazines loaded up ready to go, and emptied the gun repeatedly as fast as you could, MAYBE, there might be enough heat buildup to melt something, but I've never heard of it. Nor would I be wasting ammo like that during at this time.

i dont have the money to buy enough ammo to generate enough heat from shooting to melt polymer gun frames.

Oh Yah!

Well my entire slide melted and when I stepped in it, I got welded to the pavement. I almost starved to death until my third wife, Jennifer Aniston :D(whom I've seen naked):D, came along and freed me.

So there!!!

Someone needs to reissue his squirt gun back to him because he's lost his privilege of owing a real firearm!

Excellent point because I do think he should not even be shooting airsoft pistols if he is having those kind of issues. I do not see how you can even run enough rounds to get it hot enough, no matter how fast he is shooting.

You got to love forums sometimes. It allows anyone to speak up about something. If we listened to what everyone said, we would think all products suck.

And Kraz, I am so glad you have Jennifer there to help you in your time of need! ;)

Just when i thought I heard it all about the myths of polymer guns.
My understanding is that most of this polymers need at least as much heat to melt than the metal alloys and in some cases much more heat to melt, but take it for what is worth since I read it on the Internet as well.

Now plastic can take more heat than metal so where are the polymer Barbecue Grills.

I don't see folks stippling aluminum frames with soldering irons.....

But, the frame didn't melt. There are bulges, uneven places, by design in the Kahr frame. They all have it... especially seen on the right side exterior. Whoever it was, they were uninformed, mistaken.

Hold on there Jocko. When I was recently shooting my somewhat modified select fire CM9 with the twin fifty round snail drum magazines I did notice the gun getting a tad warm to the touch. I now keep a bucket of water handy just in case it bursts into flames. One can't be too careful.
