I have responded to multiple listings of items for sale here and rarely ever even recieved a response. What gives? Can you say FLAKEY?
Don't list it if you don't intend to sell it, or don't intend to respond to "buy" offers or questions!
Sheesh! Maybe this should be a "sticky"

Most listings say to PM the seller. If you didn't do that, you might not get a response just because they are not checking in on their thread that frequently or don't notice it. That's pretty standard practice (the PM route). Give it a shot. If you don't get a response then, yep, flakey.

It is flakey but do not blame the forum for it.
Looks like some join just to post something for sale apparently having posted it numerous places and if it sells elsewhere they never come back to post that it was sold.
As Chrish pointed out you should go the PM route, many seem to have them set to give notice in their email. I hate posting an I'll take it on the forum where no one else has done that only to find that someone else PMed and got it before I posted my I'll take it. BUT it is what it is.

Yup; flakey.
I've done the PM route also, as was mentioned.
I do realize that it is not the responsiblility of this otherwise great site.
Thanks all.

If the thread is weeks or months old, that is a clue, too. Usually, interesting articles get sold pretty quickly in the marketplace, so unless the thread is pretty new and being bumped by the OP, fuggeddaboudit.

You're preaching to the choir. My experience (limited as it is) is that probably many of the FOR SALE listings are by people who only join to sell something. I've attempted to purchase two items on here. One was successful, but the guy never came back to put SOLD on the thread. The other I actually ended up transacted through Armslist. In the end he backed out of the deal and gave me a refund after payment had actually been completed. But in our phone discussions I found out he had joined here to list it (and I had PM'd him), but he hadn't responded and never took it down.

I have had the same problem. Most forums I have seen require you to be a member for a certain period of time or have so many posts before you can sell something. It might be something to consider. I have had the same problem. However, I have had some good experiences as well. We still have many really good people on this forum!

Knock on wood, I've had nothing but success here and at the P250 forum I participate in. Purchased from members on both sites, some long time folks, some newer folks. My biggest beef is the stuff I want doesn't last long and I miss stuff. But otherwise, I've been lucky I guess.

I find it odd that i couldnt add my own avatar until i had like 30 posts, yet you allow posting inthe market place unregulated.

I found out I was odd the other night at the grocery store....I was bagging up my stuff and an old lady came over and patted me on the back and said "Bless your Heart, I'm so glad this store gives jobs to people like you"....I'm not sure exactly what she meant so I just started touching my tongue to my nose and making animal noises until she went away...;)

If there is no required number of posts before you can sell an item, then we as buyers are open to scammers.........A 1 poster can sell you something, take your money and be gon and never heard from again. If it takes 30 posts for an avitar then it should take 30 posts to sell an item to protect all of us from being scammed.

I have to bow to my respected and much smarter leaders on this but I believe that when they join us there is contact information that might be used to track down the offending seller.
Certainly as much as even a high post count member. Other than after a few post we can get a feel for a person (not like a physical grope kind of feel ya understand) but like a mental grope if you will.
It certainly pays to take precautions anytime you buy stuff from cyberspace.
This may be something they wish to set up or not, their call.
Post count really isn't a concrete thing, heck I could be gone tomorrow, that might be wishful thinking but it could happen.
Course if they have internet in hell, I'll be logged in the day after that.

We've discussed it at length but have several reasons why things are setup the way they are:
1) minimum posts for avatars, etc - those take up room on our servers and we don't want someone joining the forum, adding a bunch of pics, etc, then never coming back. It also gives people something to strive for, feeling like they've gained something as they become more established here.
2) we don't require minimum posts before posting to the for sale because we don't want anyone to miss out on any deals. If a person has a Kahr, and they are going to sell it for whatever reason, the best place to try to move it would be Kahr Talk. A Lot of people don't participate with posts, they simply look around and read. They may have never really been here, nor do they plan on coming back, but if they throw up a good gun at a good deal, why would we want not members to have a shot at it? The old ads do get annoying, I realize that, but you can find old ads, or ads no one responds to at many other forums as well. I see people replying to a post from 6 months ago with "Still for sale?". I'll look at the seller and they haven't been back online for 5 1/2 months - You're probably not going to get a response from them, nor get that gun. We don't have the time to read every thread and weed these out. If it looks that way, report it and I'll get rid of it.
3) You can get scammed by anyone, regardless of post count. Kahrtalk will not take any responsibility whatsoever in those transactions. There is nothing that says "oh 30 posts, he won't rip me off". Like Bawanna mentioned, get a feel for the person, go through secure channels when doing a transaction, etc. It is probably less likely if it is a well known member that is selling an item, but like has been mentioned, even they could scam you. Things like that happen, even in face to face transactions when using Craigslist, etc. If you aren't comfortable buying from a person with one post to their name, don't send them money.
To sum all of that up, we discussed having minimum posts before allowing to sell, but in the end we figured we'd rather users have a shot at a "good buy". Like I said, if you don't want to buy from a new person, don't do it.

Thanks JustinN. I do see your point. I have noticed some people are selling the only Kahr they own so they may not stick around on the site. We all just need to be careful when someone has a low post count. I am all about getting a good deal. I figured you guys had thought this thing through.

I prefer a PM if I'm selling something. It then notifies me if someone is trying to contact me. I will reply to a low ball offer in a for sale thread but it's probably not going to be much of a response, and if I see "PM!" in a for sale thread and the item isn't sold I assume it was a pretty low offer. A lot of the stuff I have seen here has been listed reasonably.

And no graft or corruption blatantly obvious.

I just missed out on a sale because the seller (Mathew L)
"Must have missed your email."
I am the only one who responded by email and by posting my interest in the thread.
See this thread for details and my solution:

KahrTalk really needs a better system for buying and selling.

Krazman, you need to chill out about not getting to buy those magazines. You missed the sale, move on. When I list something I throw it up on multiple forums. If you don't like it, you can shop else ware. You are freaking out over nothing....you act like the guy stole your money. If the S&W forum is the be all end all of Internet shopping, don't waste your time here.

I have been on here since day #1 and this is the first time I have ever had a negative comment about the buy and sell system. So IMO how do we correct a system that 99.995% of the time it works perfect. Geezsch

Kraz really got his panties in a bunch over those magazines. I don't know why. I was able to buy new mags for less than the seller was asking for used mags.
The drama seems unwarranted to me.

Well, I just joined this forum and placed an ad, albeit to buy not sell. But, I intend to buy a Kahr product and hopefully add to as well as benefit from this forum. I guess what I am saying is, anywhere you look, you usually get the good with the bad. I hear you though, it really sucks to find something you have been looking for & reply to an ad only to be ignored. I don't like that either.

dont you guys ever get spam in the marketplace/

a 5 post minimum will eliminate spam posts.
most new guys introduce, say hello, etc and have 5 posts anyway.

No, we don't. It's why you have to answer a security question to register and then verify the email address. That cuts out 99% of the spammers. The ones that do spam that crap don't usually spam it in the marketplace, they do it in the general chat area....but there again spam filters pick up on it and catch it.
IF anyone does see those they usually get reported and the post is removed, user banned, and IPs blocked.....it's really not much of a problem now a days...unless I've been missing tons of spam posts???
