Get this. A dad posts a picture of his kid holding a 22 cal. S&W M&P 15-22 to his Facebook page. Family services in New Jersey show up with the cops, demand his wife open up the safe so they can rummage through it, and threaten to take his kids away when refused. Amazing:

The odd thing is: my daughter's Facebook page has an almost identical picture of her and her friend holding the exact same firearm, an M&P 15-22 (and a 9mm Uzi for good measure! :D) She's not much older than the kid in this story. This could have been me & my family, as Maryland is no friendlier to firearms than is New Jersey.

Still it's a good teaching opportunity for the family: As much as we love and support the police - No search warrant? No search. Thanks and have a nice day.

Note: the family handled the situation just right. (Also good kid & good trigger finger discipline. I noticed that & of course my daughter and her friend did the same thing. First thing I taught them was the four rules of gun safety.)

The first thing I noticed when I saw the picture was the good trigger finger discipline. I was actually quite impressed.

i texted a pic of my oldedst (8 at the time) holding my new shotgun (remmington 870 20 ga)
she replied
'is that what goes on while Im gone?"

is common place to us, but odd to others.
