I PAID for the CM9 on saturday the 9th at scheels in fargo. They said i could pick it up in moorhead in 2 hours. (Because i am a MN resident)
When i went to get it, I couldnt touch it because i didnt have a permit to purchase.
I didnt know i needed one. And nobody even said those words when i traded my .357 or when i PAID for the CM9
On tuesday the 19th i got my permit to purchase from the moorhead police department. I went to get my pistol. They made me fill out more forms and said they would be right back. 20 min later i was told i was "delayed". Come back later.
So i finally called today to find out that (this took 3 people to get a detailed explanation) delayed means i might wait 5 days or 5 months.
Those stupid mother *******. They took my 357 and i PAID for a new gun. THEN they tell me what needs to be done to touch the new gun.
I cant believe they did it in that order. Take my gun, sell me a new gun, THEN tell me what i need to do to get the gun.
They should have done all the background checks BEFORE selling me the new one. ******* assholes.
I didnt know the laws, and they never gave me any hints, at all, of what i was going to need to actually take the gun home.
I am not pissed at the system. Its good to do checks.
Its NOT good to sell me stuff, then tell me i cant have it.
The store ****** me.
If i dont pass this federal background check i am going to have a meeting with the store and discuss why the sales tecniques are unacceptable.

Not to be an a$$, as your situation sucks... but it is your responsibility to know the laws.

Yes i understand that.
Do you want to buy this 1.35 mars bar?
Ok then trade me the 1.35 snickers you have and .35
Ok thanks for the trade and the .35
Now to get your snickers you need some tape and some glue. You dont have any?
Ok you can have your .35 back
Um, i wouldnt have traded if i knew i needed tape and glue. Now i dont have a candy bar at all.

Also, i didnt even think there was any laws to know.
I honestly thought you just go in, they check you out, you buy and leave.
If you dont check out, you dont buy.
Are you missing the point?

No, I see your point... you didn't know. But that still doesn't put them at fault for taking your money.
Just like buying a gun online... they'll take your money and ship the gun to your verified FFL... but it'll also say on that site that you are responsible for knowing the laws of your state.
Bottom line.. the person/store you are physically taking possession of the gun from is the only one who cares about the laws/rules/permits/etc.

ok, lets pretend I knew all the laws.
I still got screwed.
Should I have checked to see if I passed the background check myself?
oh wait, I cant do that.

That's the spirit. You'll ace the fed check and pick it up and all this bad stuff will be forgotten by 2019 or so.
I just hate the waiting and being at the mercy of multiple entities with mulitple employees anyone of which can ruin your day with a simple typo error.
Hopefully this will be over soon and all will be find and dandy.

Lamppa, I understand your situation and frustration. Any of us could be subject to that when we buy. That's one concern that I have always had when buying online is that some issue would arise after I paid and it shipped. I never had a problem though. Did you provide your SSN when doing the paperwork? If I recall it says on the form "Optional but will help prevent misidentification." It might keep from confusing you with Lamppa the psycho. I have also heard second hand of some being delayed because of some past government dealings or clearances (non-criminal.)
The last ones I have purchased I bought locally because I know they do the paperwork before I pay.

My CM9 was my 1st purchase from a gun store also. I live in a very small town and only have one dealer in a 50 mile radius. After shopping around in different towns and the net I still bought locally. Could have gotten one a little cheaper but thought it would be better to cut out the middle men and do the whole thing in one place. It took him about an hour to do all the leg work and hand me my gun. Glad I did it that way. When I figured it all out it cost me $25 more.

Unless the online price is a whole lot less than local, I always buy local. My favorite local gun shop is normally either less than online or not more than $25 more than online.
The big plus is no FFL fees.
The even bigger plus is instant gratification!

What a run around. I can tell you that it would be illegal for the store to run your 4473 before the time they actually transfer the firearm to you. They have to do it at time of transfer and watch you fill the form out and sign. Can't tell you why more than the one form unless they have an internal form as Cabelas does or there are some local laws. I read the FBI is backed up many days and is blaming on scarequester. We all feel for you - nothing like having a deal screwed up by things out of your control.

I'm with Lamppa on this one. The store should have explained the process up front and and let him decide if that's what he wants to do. If they had and he did, he would still be waiting for his permit, but with his other gun and money in his pocket. For all he knows the store may close up shop with both gun and money lost in the process before he gets his paid for gun.
My LGS does explain the process very clearly up front as she has a good presence at gun shows and a lot of new buyers don't have a clue.
I live for instant gratification.
Marriage cured me of that.

I can't understand this whole "permit" thing. I don't think I could not live in a nanny state like that. Having grown up with freedom, it's hard to understand those childish rules.

thats my whole mindset too.
like i previously posted, i honestly thought i was gonna walk in with gun A and out with gun B
I did not think it was so complicated
Almost sorry to point this out and I'll stop after this.....ignorance of and inattention to what's being passed into gun law is what allows situations like yours to occur in the first place. Perhaps your dealer should have been more proactive. But perhaps they just assumed you, as a gun buyer, knew what you were doing.
