View Full Version : Dickies Perry Suspenders for CCW

I've talked about my anatomical shortcomings for CCW... about how my stomach is too big, my waist is just a tad smaller than my hips, and how my shorts (or pants) keep sliding down and I keep having to grab them with both hands and pulling them up ever so often... OR having to tighten my belt to the point it is uncomfortable. The shorts I got in the last year for CCW have belt loops and I have NEVER had to undo the buttons to get them on and off. That's okay, but they won't stay up with a good-sized gun and spare clip as extra weight.
I had been thinking about suspenders, and while in Wally World the other day, I picked up a couple of W100 packs of .45 ACP 230-GR FMJ for $32.97 each and a couple more boxes of the Federal 115-Gr FMJ for $9.47 each box of 50. I'm hoping to catch some .380 like either of those someday.
As I was about to leave I thought about suspenders and went looking for some while there. I first saw the metal-clasp type and then saw these Dickies which were the right color(khaki) and had plastic belt clips. I haven't worn them outside the house and don't know how comfortable they will be, especially when it gets hotter and I sweat... over 65°! My intent is to wear them under my Polos with them on my bare skin.
I thought they might be washable and got two pair... cheap $8.44 each plus tax out the door $18.07 for the two pair.
I'll have to admit that my first thought was no metal... undetectable... then quickly I remembered... oh, yeah! The gun and bullets! Ha! Ha!
Anyhow, I'm gonna try these out and see if I can stand to wear them. The care tag says "Spot clean only", so I'll just have to see. I can see light machine washing and hang to dry as a test.
Pictures follow.

You're welcome. I need to get up and try mine out. I just keep checking for new posts and answering them.
I figured that I might not be the only one looking for some kind of solution to the pants or shorts sliding south.

I generally don't wear pants but I'll make note of this for future reference. I've attached a photo of myself a few days before the accident.

Dang! You should have been able to hold the wall up, or whatever, with that kind of build!
I just put those suspenders on with my shorts and polo and carrying my PM45 in the Minituck and a spare 6-round mag OWB on the opposite side. I'll have to get the length set just right, but I don't feel as though I'm going to be pulling anything up every 5 minutes! My gut should keep the stuff from riding up.:p
Gonna go shopping at Wally World and maybe Lowe's... need a new fertilizer flinger thingie. Field test for an hour or so.
Later.

Your wearing shorts and watering the lawn. We had snow yesterday afternoon right towards the end of our Little League baseball game. Nice again today, chilly but suns out. Looking forward to the suspender field test report.

Well, I think I have a fix for my shorts/pants sliding south. I just wore the suspenders under my Polo for almost 4 hours and I had no sliding down problems. I had this weird compulsion, controllable but weird, to snap my bra... er, suspender straps. I did have a tiny itch on the plastic or synthetic leather on the skin side of that leather/faux-leather cross piece on the rear strap. I pulled that out just and inch or so and let that go... nice snap... gotta watch that.
This is great, though, I can wear my PM45 and a spare mag... soon to be 7-round extended grip for the PM45, without fear of having to continually pull up my shorts... or jeans... in cooler weather. The extra plastic on the mag keeps it from digging into my "padding" in places. I don't wear shirts tucked in the year around -- CCW is a big reason.
Subject to more testing in warmer or hotter weather, it seems like a good idea. It certainly doesn't cost too much.

This isn't gonna lead up to another brazzier holster discussion is it. Might not be so bad, last one was pretty interesting. Wonder if you could hang a mag pouch on your new suspenders for a few extra rounds, and lighten up the belt line. course it probably helps offset the weight of that pip squeak you make me so jealous PM45. I think I just had an a ha moment. Thought I didnt like ya, never did and never will but it's mostly likely just jealousy. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors Kahrs, or wifes, or mistress's.

It's maybe not a perfect fix on the CCW with my big PM45, but it's nice that I'm not looking around and furtively pulling my shorts up with both hands... much too often. I could throw another mag in my pocket with the TK modified-for-in-pocket-carry holder, as well as one on my belt at about 8 o'clock. The PM45 is at about the 4 to 4:30 position. I should get those other 2 7-shot .45 mags any time now. For "In Stock" it took them about 6 days to ship... by USPS... not real swift.
I'm kind of wondering what those will be like... 7-round with extended grip for the PM45. K725G. Every picture I've seen of the seven rounders had the regular PM45 5-shot base with about 1/4" more grip. I have the extended grip 6-rounder and I bought a 7-round TP45 mag for a spare months before I got the gun so I could send Mitchell a mag to use for a mold to make me some magazine holders. I don't know if he's gonna start his hobby back up or quit making the holders, yet. That's one reason I wanted to get some quickly and ahead of actual need. I felt he was going to hit overload soon and he wound up having house repairs or renovations that had higher priority.
Darn. It's 3 AM and I need some sleep. I had to get up at 5 AM yesterday and drive across town to the big JAX Navy Hospital for ultrasound of my liver... and other organs, it turns out. Mine were there and okay... pretty good for an older guy, the female technician said. A nice touch was heated lube gel or whatever they smear all over the target areas. I told her I thought they kept that in the fridge. Someone decided it might be nicer to warm it up a bit... Duh!
Well, I've rambled enough for a while. I guess that by the time I get up this morning, I'll be bringing up the #3 position. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted. Number three isn't so bad. It's too demanding to try to stay ahead of you, Bawanna'. I'll watch your back until Vini' overtakes me.

I don't see how I could have any fun Twittering... I don't like abrupt posts.

I told you it ain't gonna happen dude. I"m watching your meter and making sure I'm eatin trail dust. Trying to participate only when I got something meaningful to contribute even if it's trying to make somebody laugh. Pretty much my mission in life. Course if you posted a picture of yourself in your suspenders, shorts and red high heels, that would probably do it too. Well it's 2:30 am on the west coast now. I'm usually in the sack by 10. Got a second job making fishing lures and trying to get a bunch done for monday. Going fast as I can I figure I'm racking in 6 bucks an hour. Only a little less than minimum wage. Course if I wasn't doing it I'd probably be spending 3 times that so guess it's a wash, except for the blisters, sore hands, still not recovered from the table saw run in first week of january. Enough powerwhining for now. No gun porn to look at so might as well call it a day.

I don't think my wife even has a pair of pumps, let alone heels. She wears more practical shoes. I have put on pantyhose on occasions... like stretching them to use for my dryer's exhaust outside. The lint filter in the dryer doesn't catch all the lint, especially the finer stuff. For some reason house planners like to put the exhaust right next to the darn heat pump condenser which sucks the lint in and fills up the radiator fins. I put a pair of pantyhose on that thing and if they aren't pre-stretched there isn't much room for the exhaust to go in there and the hose can't hold much lint before plugging up. That's my story and I'm sticking to it... I have stood in front of the mirror and shuddered, though. The hose don't help my legs... calves too large. I just changed the thing a few days ago and just used my arms and hands to stretch the things... it doesn't work as well, didn't feel like putting them on. Dang! Sitting here with my eyes glazing over again. I was working on getting caught up with the newspaper.

Dang! Am I going to have to start erasing posts to get the pass over with??:D 5:57 AM EDT
