Hi all,

Noob to the forum here and not even a current Kahr owner. I currently own a Glock 27 that I would love to trade in for a CW9. Wondering if anyone has done anything similar, and if this is a realistic expectation for trade-in. I've never sold a firearm before in my life - the fact that I've just relocated to PA from NYC may explain that.

Rather stupidly, I'd never really taken a hard look into Kahr firearms before because their advertising turned me off a bit... Stupid, but true. I've owned the Glock 27 for a while, but have only put 200 rounds through it because, frankly, it's not particularly fun to shoot. I am also one of those boobs who had early on, without much pistol experience, believed a lot of the hype about 9mm being an "underpowered" round. I now believe that to be nonsense, and in looking past the advertising and into [many] actual user reviews of Kahr pistols and their specs, I am smitten. They seem to perfectly fill a niche that badly needs filling: high-quality, well-constructed pistols that are concealable while still offering a full grip, with no manual safety. The CW series seems perfect to me.

Now that I'm living in a much more Constitution-friendly state and waiting on a CCW permit, the G27 seems like simply an unrealistically uncomfortable option. I've been holstering the thing around my home just to get a feel for how it will ride, and it's just a brick. Realistically, I just need something slimmer and lighter. I own a Walther PPS in .40 caliber, and I love it, but for the round count I figure it'd be nice to have something still lighter. The CW9 seems to fit the bill perfectly. I'm just hoping I can get a good trade-in deal for the G27.

I was in several shops, yesterday. I saw new G27 pistols priced as follows:

Gen3: $549 (comes with 2 magazines)
Gen4: $579 (comes with 3 magazines)

Another local shop, known for scalping, had the Gen4 priced at $649. He got away with that a few months ago, but I didn't see anyone buying at that price, yesterday.

It's none of my business, but I would hang onto the G27 a while longer. Get some experience shooting, before you make another impulse purchase. The G27 is a fine pistol.

I know nothing about Glocks, but welcome to this forum from North Dakota

I am not an expert in any gun, so if these are apples & oranges I apologize. But I did email this guy in OK, and he did end up with the trade he was looking for. I hope this gives you something to use as a gauge.

P.S. Scroll all the way down to see the listing.

If you bought the glock new I would think that you could either sell it out right and more than have enough money to buy a CW9 and ammo (if you can find any) or trade it for a CW9 and ammo (which might be better.)

You are going to like the CW9. I had one and traded it for a CM9. I like the CM9 but I should have kept both since the CW9 was fun to shoot. Although one thing is the lack of a CW9 did prompt me to get a CW45 just to have something different.

Yeah, that used G27 is worth more than a new CW9. So, sell it on Armslist or Gunbroker, or trade it for a CW9, 2 extra mags and some ammo.

Thanks, everyone, for the welcome and the good advice. Much appreciated.

I wouldn't characterize the G27 purchase as an impulse buy. The problem at that time was that I was living in NYC, where obtaining a concealed carry permit is a virtual impossibility for a civilian. I knew I'd eventually be relocating to PA, however, so I wanted to acquaint myself with the pistol I thought I'd be carrying down the road. I've owned a G23 for some time, and I will never give that gun up. Figured a truncated version would be ideal for carry. What I couldn't predict accurately was the matter of comfort/discomfort just walking around with the thing. Now that I've done that a bit - on my own property - I realize I'm better off with something lighter and thinner for EDC, even if this means trading capacity. If I could, I'd keep the G27 AND buy a CW9. I like the idea of having a "backup" Glock in .40 that can take the mags I use for my G23. But I really just don't have the scratch to keep both weapons, and I feel I'd get more practical use out of the Kahr. Thanks for the detailed info on G27 pricing. This is extremely helpful.

As a gun dealer I'd offer you $350 for it, I'd then look to flip it for at least $550.00. My advice is to put it on Gunbroker. You should get pretty close if not more than retail. I sold a really used Glock 30 (dim night sights, wear on the barrel, etc) for $550 on Gunbroker last week. Glock has over 1,000,000 guns on back order so the market is good for them. On the same token, I can't get any Kahrs from any of my suppliers right now, so if there is an opportunity to trade and are happy with the deal then go for it.

Trade in will be wholesale value at a LGS.
A low ball price so they can resell the gun at a profit.
Usually you are better off selling to a private party.

Not to turn you away from Kahr.
But you can get a third party conversion barrel and G26 mags for your G27.
I've shot thousands of trouble free rounds of 9mm through my G27
with a Storm Lake G27 40-9mm conversion barrel and G26 mags.

Just a thought...
