I got to teach with the Great Vicki Farnam

Yesterday Vicki Farnam was in town teaching a Ladies only Defensive Pistol class, I was asked to assist. We had 9 students, mostly beginners, so we worked a lot on mindset, pistol presentation and re-holstering, trigger reset, etc. Ran thru a few drills for them to work on, had a great class. Wish it had been longer than 1 day, but we packed a lot of info in the time we had.
Vicki is phenomenal. I love her teaching style and personality. She and her husband John are some of the best. She really paved the way for women in firearms, specifically teaching women to shoot. I was really walkin in tall cotton yesterday. Even sweet talked her into signing my copies of her books on teaching women. :cool:
Turns out Vicki is a Kahr fan, she has a couple. She has tiny hands, so she really likes the size of the Kahr grips. Yesterday she was running an XDs 45, still fairly new to her, so she's still test driving.
John is teaching a 2 day rifle class today and tomorrow. I wish I could've taken that, but work is too slammed right now for me to get the time off. Maybe next time they're in town or close by.

TD2K: I have watched through this forum as you went from an apprehensive student about to take her Basic Pistol course to the fun you are having now. Good for you. We need a lot more ladies doing what you are doing. Thank you.

Thanks guys. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I love teaching brand new shooters as well as fairly advanced ones. Getting to teach with Vicki was such an honor.

I'll be attending the NRA conference again this year, they've asked me to assist with their Ladies Only instructor course (the one I took as a student a year ago). I'm not a "Training Counselor" yet, have to be in it at least 2 years, but they asked me to help out. I'm very excited.

How long ago did you start shooting?

for serious about 4 years ago. Got my conceal carry license and carry daily, I've taken several defensive pistol and instructor classes since. I've shot a few competitions and want to shoot more, trying to find the time to do so.

I was fortunate to get to train with John and Vicki over a 3-day weekend for Urban Carbine and Defensive Pistol courses.

These people are the best, so if you're good enough to be one of their instructors that makes you pretty damn good, too.

I really enjoyed working them. Such great people. I hope they will return in the near future and offer more advanced classes that I can take.
