Are the .40 and 9mm mags the same?

Sorry if this has been discussed before and sounds like a stupid question even to me. but i was looking for a kahr 9mm mags at sportsmans for my cm9 and all they had were .40 and .45 mags. i was looking at them and the .40 mags look dam near identical to my 9mm mag. same size and everything (im worried theyre slightly different sizes but look similiar to the naked eye). ive found ppl online saying the 9mm mag sometimes work in the .40s but will it work the other way around with .40 mags in the 9mm.

if anyone has some first hand experience with this id appreciate some help. id like to know for sure before i spend the money and feel like a dumba$$ when they dont work;)

No, the tubes are a tiny bit different... a bit wider... not sure about the followers. I tried converting 7-round P/CW/K9 mags to .40, but not reliable. I tried to stretch or widen the tubes a tiny bit, but wasn't happy with the results. They do use the same bases and springs.

I haven't tried the other direction... that might work. I'll check that in a few minutes!

why would u wantto try to install a 9mm mag in a 40 cal gun or vice versa. U save no money by buying either one. Buy the correct magazine for the caliber of the gun you have and take no chances.there is a difference in the 40 cal mags and the 9mm mags, or kahr wold only be making one mag . However slight they may be, there is a difference.

ive called everywhere around me ocally and noone has the 9mm mag. only .40 and .45. if i can avoid ordering online and waiting a year i will bit i found some in stock just waiting to find out if wyntrout finds out if theyll work or not

Okay! I just tried my .40 mags in the P9 and all went in snugly... will lock in place, but won't drop free. They are a tiny bit wider. I loaded one each of the 6 and 7-round .40 mags with 9mm and they fed fine. I don't have the PM-sized .40 mags, but the fit should be the same as my P9. They seem to fit and feed, but they are snug fits in the mag well and don't drop free. It's not like they are way big... just a little, so they do seem to work... 9mm in the .40 Kahr mags.

pay the difference than what u can find on line and can't find um and buy um direct from kahr. I would think one extra magazine would suffice until u can sarch around anbd maybe save a few bucks online.

With the 9mm rounds, I can get one more in each of the .40 mags. The rounds are a tiny bit looser side to side, but I racked a whole mag of each quickly with no problems. I think you could safely use the .40 mags, but I would test them at the range for reliable function. As I said, going the other way 9 to .40 was NOT a good "conversion".

i ordered one online but while im waiting for it i may go try a .40 mag if the store takes returns that is haha

to the guy who asked if id trust my life with it im just looking for more range mags i already have kahr factory mags for CC that i DO trust my life with so no worry there.

You're welcome. Wifey was napping and I don't think the racking bothered her. She gets up at 05:00 and works to 5 or 6PM sometimes.

I have plenty of mags and tried to convert my under-used 7-round 9mm mags to 6-rounders for my P40, but I have plenty of those now... and I got the P9 so I use the K9 mags now in it.

I bought a tp40 a while back. I found that the mags do run 9mms just fine but as others found out they fit very snuggly into the 9mm grips. I have some range time on them to proof them. To bad kahr can't get the 40mm feed lips on the 9mm mags as they run beter in both my cw and cm9 . Makes rake'n the slide very simple and clean.
