Hi All,
My first post.
I have carried a Glock 27 daily for well over 10 years and own many other pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.
I'm looking into purchasing my first Kahr, a PM9.

I have done quite a bit of research and I think the PM9 is one of the
best combinations of power to weight and minimal recoil weapons that I have found.

I have a local gun dealer, that I deal with, who quoted me $749.00
for the pistol. I also inquired about the Crimson Trace laser that
is made specifically for the PM9 and he said $259.00 for the laser.
I also asked him if I could have XS Big Dot tritium's installed at the
factory instead of the "other" tritium sights. He said "No, We do not buy directly from the factory but through a third party" or something like that...
The reason I asked this question is; I believe I read recently that it cost $40.00? to send the slide back to the factory to let them install sights.
It seems like a waste of money to have them install sights, sell the weapon to me, me ship the slide back to them with my XS sights , they then uninstall the factory sights, install my new sights and ship it back to me...

Then I need a holster.., Thinking of a Alessi ankle rig or maybe a Stellar Pocket holster. Another $100 to $150.

Appx total; $749+$259 +(tax on these 2 = $69.31) +$128.00 (sights),
+ $150 (holster)= appx $1355.00.

If I spend 1300+ dollars on a sub compact back up pistol, It Better Not Have Nickel Plating Flaking Off ANYWHERE on it. My Glocks, Rugers, HK's, Sigs have never had any flaking issues of any kind.
Are the flaking issues isolated or are they widespread? If the newest issue pistols still have issues and I send it in for a warranty replacement,
how do I know the replacement will not have issues also? My question is; How do I know the replacement barrel will be any different than the barrel the pistol originally has? Are they just picking another barrel off the assembly line and hoping it will not have issues also, or was there just a bad "batch" and now all barrels are A-OK?

Not trying to sound complaining at all. From what I have read, the Kahrs are very high quality firearms. It is just this plating issue is something I may expect to happen to a $150.00 pocket pistol.

Thanks In Advance for any responses.

Blessings,
Brian

Don't know where you live, but you're getting ripped by your dealer. I paid $525 last month for my PM9, and $165 for the CTC laser. Both brand new. I know $525 is a very low price, and not common, but $749 seems outrageous, and so does the laser price (installed yourself in about 5 minutes). Your dealer is buying from a distributor, obviously, which is quite common.

I live 8 miles from where the big dots are made. I bought them there ($120 is the normal price most sell for) and my shop installed them for $20.

I'm not saying you will get the same prices as I did, but if you shop around, especially on the net, you can do much, much better.

Best of luck

I paid $650 for my PM 40 today at Ft. Thompson sporting goods in Sherwood Arkansas. If I had bought it last week I could have gotten it for 625.

That sounds high to me also.

There's a few PM9s NIB on GunBroker right now, right at $600. PM9 CTC Laserguards on ebay and GunBroker for $162.

I agree with the others, the price seems a bit high. I paid $625+FFL fees last aug. I could have done a little better since my local dealer got one it after I purchased mine online. His prices are better and I could have saved the FFL fees on both sides. I have about 500 rounds though mine with no flaking issues so I think it might have been a bad batch with the plating issues.

Good grief! Buy one on Gunbroker, but use Gunbroker's list of FFL dealers who will receive your pistol and do the paperwork. The fees are listed and it pays to shop around. There will be many FFL dealers to choose from. I would guess that YOUR dealer there would rape you on receiving and processing a gun bought off the 'Net.
I switched from my expensive Range/GS to one of the ones listed by Gunbroker with a fee of $25, which includes the fee, the InstaCheck call and any tax... $25 flat out the door. The other dealer wanted $50 + $5 IC + tax on it all... almost $59 total! So it pays to shop for dealers, too. On the gun and CT with no tax, you're looking at a big savings. If you're buying from an online dealer with services, maybe you can get a deal on installed NS like you want as well. Shop online and communicate with the sellers.
I try to save money and get the best deals I can.

just saw a nib at my local dealer for 495 I would think twice about paying that amount. If your paying that kind of money it better be a DLC with N/S. Good luck.
