On another forum, a guy said he sprayed the firing pin hole with gun scrubber and a lot of junk washed out. Shreds of brass etc. this was in a kahr cm9. This runs against every practice I've ever heard.
Aren't you supposed to remove the firing pin, clean it & run it dry?
Anyone else do this?

You can if you want to but most here use a good non chlorinated brake cleaner spray (same as Gunscrubber) and stick the red nozzle in the firing pin clean out hole on the underside of the slide and blast away until you see clean liquid coming out both ends of the firing pin....
DO NOT lube the firing pin or channel....See the sticky about proper prep of a new Kahr to show where the clean out hole is located and the correct lube points....
A brand new pistol may have some metal gunk in there from the manufacturing process and it needs a good cleaning and lube before firing.... There is a sticky showing how to tear down the firing pin assemby to remove the pin and spring, it's a little tricky the first time but after a few times it's easy enough to do with the proper home made tool (shown in the sticky) but most folks here find that a good spray out after shooting is all that is necessary....

Jocko will be here in a minute, I think he's in the can... Pay attention to what ole Jock says, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to Kahr pistols so do what he says and you will be OK....Please understand that Jocko has no hands and types with his elbows so it's a little tough to read his posts but you'll get it after being here a while .....:D

The Kahr manual states that the striker channel shouldn't be lubricated. Oil attracts dirt and moisture. Over time oil and debris can congeal in the striker channel and cause light primer strikes. Cleaning the striker channel with non chlorinated brake cleaner is an acceptable practice. It drys quickly and leaves no residue.

ur call to make. most feel running it dry helps to get additional build up in the striker channel. The internbals of ur kahrs striker channel are stainless parts, they ain't gonna rust. If u feel etter lubing it, then do it. If u use that little clean out hole in the bottom of ur slide, u should never have to take it apart but for that first time to be very sure all crapola is out of that striker channel. We have seen some new guns with alot fo crapola left inside that channel, and iwth all the guts out of the striker chanel. then there is no way it is nnot gonna get spiffyclean.
I have never lubed my G19 striker channel. I clean it the same way usig the glock clean out hole on the botoom of the slide. IMO this should be part of ur cleaning routine to, as onceu get that channel clean, it might take 10 seconds to respray it clean..

After I spray mine with break-cleaner I'll spray it with compress air to get the excess fluid and get it dryed

I saw shreds of brass 1st time I cleaned mine. Careful with the brake cleaner...the paint on the rear site fell off after a few cleanings, I suspect because brake cleaner was ending up on it every time I sprayed out the striker channel.
Also, I work the striker back and forth while spraying. And I also follow up with a can of compressed air.

I use Gunscrubber synthetic safe formula. Is brake cleaner better than Gunscubber, or just less expensive?
