Purchased some Meprolight Tru Dots for my PM9 & took them to gunsmith for installation. He told me he was having a difficult time installing them because they were a tight fit and didn't feel confident he could get them attached without damaging them. I was sure to buy the Tru Dots made for PM9's made after 2004 (ML15120 is the part number). Anybody else experience this problem?

Yes........bought the same night sights for a PM9 slide. Local reputable gunsmith had a heck of a time putting them on. After install and after closer inspection, the rear sight was found to be defective or rather "not aesthetically pleasing" to wit a sloppy tritium job in one of the holes.

I wasn't about to remove the bad sight since it was such a PIA to get it on there so I sent the slide/sight back to Kahr. Should have had Kahr put the sights on to begin with which is what I wanted but there was a miscommunication at the time of purchase. Kahr put on a new rear and it was flawless (at no charge).

If your sights are not yet installed, personally I would pay the extra money and have Kahr do it. There will be guys posting here how easy it is, but was not the case with my particular slide/sights. And "yes" the gunsmith knew the correct side of the slide to start the sight.

I was really hoping to avoid shipping off my slide and having to wait for its return:(

........3 week waiting time unless you "know" someone.

Mention Jocko and they add a couple weeks extra. ;-)

I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and part with my slide for a few weeks as you've recommended. I'm a stickler when it comes to having things done the right way and the idea of paying a gunsmith and winding up with a less than perfect result would not sit well with me.

The guy I had used to do sight installation on my other guns retired and stopped taking in new work, so I had to find a new guy. I'm glad I did.

This guy has an excellent machine shop and carries a PM40. When I got my PM9 I brought it to him to put the night sights on I ordered from Kahr.

He mentioned they were indeed a tight fit but had done the install on his own gun so knew what he was doing. He took it very slow- filing a tiny bit at a time off the edge of the sight bases and trying again until he was comfortable. He then pressed them in with a big milling machine.

It really was not a problem and took maybe half an hour or so to do both sights.

I need to get new sights, my eyes don't like the standard set. And I see the posts about the wisdom of sending off to Kahr, but $40 for installation and the extra cost for overnight seems a bit excessive. Anyone know a good gunsmith in the DFW area?

Just send the slide USPS Priority using the small flat rate box. Only the whole gun or the frame require overnight shipment. Kahr or a gunsmith would only need the whole pistol to test fire the pistol.

you only pay for quality once. id opt for the factory to install the night sights.
