I took my new pm 40 to the range today and here is the report, FLAWLESS.........almost.

I shot 200 rounds through it today without a break and my arm did not even fall off from the monstrous recoil. Seriously I have never seen the big deal with recoil from a 40 cal. I recently came from the old school of revolvers, and was used to shooting 357s and snubby 38s and these automatic handguns seem like a dream come true to me.

I shot everything from cheap Federal, Winchester white box, and even a few 180 grain gold dots and everything functioned flawlessly from the flush fit 5 round magazine.

The extended 6 round magazine was a different story. About every 1/3 magazine scattered through out the range time, the second round would fail to chamber. A sharp rap on the bottom of the magazine would always dislodge it and chamber it then it would shoot the remainder of the magazine without a problem. Yes I did chamber the first round as per the instruction book with locking the slide back and inserting the round in the magazine and them pushing the slide lock down to let the gun automatically chamber the round, It always fully seated on the round also.
I was also careful in my loading of the magazines to seat the rounds fully against the back of the magazine.

I can only conclude the extended magazines (for my particular gun at least) are unreliable if fully loaded.

This is academic for me because I never intend to use it anyway. I bought this for a deep concealment weapon and the extended magazine defeats this purpose .

I am going to contact Kahr and see if they will trade this magazine out for another flush fit magazine.

Should I ask for Ian on this?

If they will not do this can I convert this to a flush fit magazine by buying a new baseplate and spring?

In conclusion I am extremely satisfied with my new Kahr. I made the right choice and would recommend these to anyone.

I've always had trouble with the extended mags loading the first round correctly. After I had about 500 rounds downrange it seems to have stopped.
I agree with you however that they don't seem quite rght.
Glad everything else worked right. I do love my PM40.

Great gun, great report, I think it will only get better with time. I've also heard alot of issues with the extended mags. Not sure if the issues have ever been determined. If it worked itself out for Raoul I'm thinking maybe a little ramp polishing or perhaps sanding the inside of the feed lips as some here have mentioned (jocko) might put the cure on that.

You could be right about polishing the feed ramps, or just keep on shooting it and checking it for function.

A couple times it almost failed to feed and it went back into battery very slowly with no extra help from me, like it was dragging on the bullet.

I ordered a Galco pocket holster today and I am sure another High Noon IWB rig will find its way to my house soon.

I am carrying it right now in a High Noon made for my G-27 . It is a little big for my Kahr, but still works O.K. I can already tell I am going to be spoiled by this little jewel. I can hardly tell I have it on.

I am one happy guy today.

Well I took the plunge a few days ago and purchased a used PM40, the serial number verifies it was made in 2006. It came with (2) extended mags, Mepros, along with the older style recoil assembly and plastic mag catch. I ran 100rds of Remington 180gr FMJ ammo thru it and it ran flawlessly. I was very surprised because the extended mags and plastic mag catch are two of the things that usually caused feeding problems. The accuracy was just like all the Kahrs I have owned, great!! Now for all the dreaded horrible recoil stories I have read. What recoil? You know that you were firing a gun but it was in no way shape or form brutal. Controllable, manageable, enjoyable are the words I would use to describe it. After I get some 5rd magazines and put another 100rds of FMJ along with 100rds of my choice of carry ammo down range (Speer GD Short Barrel 180gr), it goes in rotation.

Recently bought a PM40 myself with similar issues. On mine it was the first round of the ext. mags that did not want to feed. Towards the end of the break in period it started functioning properly, however I have not shot it since so I'm still not 100% sure if it has worked itself out. I'll be putting another 150 through it this weekend. I've noticed that the bullets don't always sit in the same orientation at the top of the mag, some are canted slightly from where they should be. Not sure if these mags aren't binding a little at the top. Let ya'll know how the next 150 go strictly through the 2 ext.mags.
