View Full Version : Where to send CW9 for slide refinishing (black)?

Didn't get a response in the CW/PW section, so looking for the tech-minded audience perhaps:
Where would you recommend I send it? I've never owned a two-tone gun, and can't get used to it. Besides, I loved my DLC coated P9 and PM9s (and regret selling them...so...I'm taking the semi-discounted route).
Note: I have some gloss-black Norrell Moly-Resin that I MAY try to do myself. Just the slide and backplate (maybe the barrel).
I'm looking for Moly Resin or Cerakote (or fancier), but affordable--I'd like to keep it under $100...$50-$75 is best. Obviously faster turnarounds are better, but I'm fine waiting as long as 4-6 weeks if I have to.

Sorry, I saw your other post and then it got lost in the shuffle.
I'd look at CCR refinishing (http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/). Years ago, I got a bug for a Robar NP3 finish on one of my Kahrs. Never did it, couldn't give it up long enough to wait for it. Since then I've run across MANY reviews of CCR's work and they seem to offer a great product at a great price (compared to Robar). Not knocking Robar, in fact I have never seen either up close and personal (Robar or CCR).
But I have a plan (once ammo and gun purchases slow down for me) to have my TP9 and maybe my P9 sent to CCR for their CeraHide finish. I don't have a need for the super duper expensive treatments like Robars NP3 or CCRs CeraPlateII , but I'd like something more 'self lubricating' than Cerakote. The CeraHide seems to be a good middle ground. Durable, multiple colors, somewhat self lubricating. The reviews and picts out there of the house black are just NICE. But I'd probably opt for the matte black.
Good luck. If you send it off, definitely post some picts when you get it back.

Yep. They were one of the few I knew of...it's a 12 week wait, BUT I'll get on the list and just send it out when they need it to cut that down. I noticed they do full-size slides for $69 and the tiny slides (LCP/P3AT/etc) for $49, so I asked if they'd split the difference and do a CW9 for $59. We'll see.
I'm also wondering if the front sight is going to have to be destroyed/removed, or if it can take be covered up and survive whatever they do to cure the cera-hide. I asked. If they can't, I'll buy a Trij Night sight front (even though I like the standard just fine--maybe better, since it might appear brighter in most environments except near dark and dark).

I'll eagerly await your results if you end up going thru w/ it...particularly if it's CCR CeraHide, I want to know how it turns out on a stainless Kahr. Should be nice. I'm not overly familiar w/ the C series models, but doesn't that pinned front sight just come off from inside? I'd think they'd just remove it, refinish the slide, put it back...but yea, if they have to trash it to get it off, just put something else on there (if there are options out there now for Trij or Fiber Optic sights for the C series).

The C series is a one time deal, have to break the front sight off to replace. Some of the replacements are install with a pin and a screw so could be removed. Others are staked on and would also be a one time deal.

According to the guys on the PW forum, the sight has to be destroyed to be removed. I know the Trij night sight is the same height, so I'm assuming the fiber-optic is as well. I DO like the big white dot--the Kahr sights are my favorite of all sights for some reason... faster and more accurate for me than anything I've used on my Glock 19 for some reason (except the RMR red-dot).

Just had my CM9 cerakoted in Armor Black by Easton Firearms Refinishing. Very impressed! Had them install a Dawson front night sight and new Kahr rear sight. All for less than $100, and had it back to me in 11 days. Good stuff!

Do check out his thread, it's the best job of cerakote I've seen on here period. Here's Easton's link ...

Just emailed Eastern Firearms for a quote on cerakoting the slide and barrel (will do the trigger myself).
I emailed CCR three or four times over a month or so and never heard back (even tried to call)....then their proces went up $20 all around, so I guess they're too busy for me.
I'm hoping EFR can do it. Do they pull the sights and install the new ones? I don't have a sight pusher, but I could probably do the front sight (I think this night sight just screws in).

Yeah, that Robar is a work of art, but it looks like you got discounts and it was still over $500. I can't afford that.
I probably spent near that at Cylinder & Slide on a PM9, but even it didn't look that good (they did a lot of internal stuff and recrowning though).

I just want to get my slide stop done. Any ideas for just making it black?

You could get something yourself (KRYLON paint), BUT I bet a lot of places would do it for $5-10 tops. Of course, you could also order a BLACK slide stop from Kahr for a little more and--from what I've read--it won't be a MIM'd part attached to a non-MIM'd part, but one whole piece.

Check his website. You can just send the slide. :86:
