Hi, I'm new here, and a first time Kahr owner... :insert geeky wave here:
Anyway, I did a quick search but didn't find my answer, so don't flame me too much if this has been discussed already.
I just recently purchased a brand new CW40, and have noticed that with a full magazine installed (6 rounder) that it fails to drop when I press the magazine release. I have to physically press UP on the magazine as I press the release to get the magazine to drop. I'm assuming that this is due to the pressure of the spring pressing the ammo up against the slide, thereby pressing the magazine down against the magazine catch? This seems like it should NOT be happening. I have never had this happen in any other firearm I've owned. Any suggestions about how to remedy this? Also, I have yet to hit the range, so I won't have any other answers for questions. Hope to give'er a good run soon.
Thanks in advance.

Traildigger, welcome. Before you hit the range we strongly urge you to look at/read wyntrout's newbie post and links (8th sticky in the New Member Area forum). Your new Kahr needs a thorough cleaning and proper lube before firing. Disassemble and clean your magazine(s) also. It's recommended to just shoot FMJ during the break in period (usually 200 rounds).

patrick, SOLD.....haha JK. I won't sweat it too much I guess.
bob, I did give it a good cleaning and lubed with frog lube. Any suggestions on anything better that Kahr's may like instead? Also, I'll give the magazine a good cleaning as well, and have to check out that thread later. (bob, you're a distant neighbor of mine. I'm in Wenatchee)
Thanks fellas.

Welcome to the forum, Traildigger! :)
Wynn will chime in here with lots of helpfull advice. He even does a little sanding/polishing around the magazine catch that he can tell you about.

first thing I would do is give the gun a through cleanig and lubing useing the kahr lube chart. Then I would go out and shoot it 200 round sto get the gun loosened up and runninbg smoothy. Ur issus is not an issue IMO.

Welcome to the forum, Traildigger. Here's a link to one of my discussions on cleaning the magazines:
http://townhall.com/political-cartoons/2013/04/09/108475
A full magazine presses strongly against the magazine catch with the slide forward. It's normal to have to push up and relieve some of the pressure, but a thorough cleaning, de-burring by light sanding of the entire magazine tube and the edges of the follower, and lightly oiling the spring can help. Don't round off the catch slot. Keep it square, but burr free.
Here's my boilerplate of info and links:
Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by K a h r Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?
One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.
Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.
Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Thanks again fellas. I'm slowly getting the Kahr prepped for a first run, but between Tball, kids school, wifes birthday, and that ever pressing J O B, I have yet to take it out for a spin. You all jave given me plenty to read up on, and study though, so I appreciate it! Once I get the opportunity, I'll follow up with a range report. I did notice that my one magazine has a crapload of gunk, so magazine prep will commence soon. Hopefully I'll find a couple additional ones to add to the pile. Are there any aftermarket magazines worth a darn, or am I better off tailoring the factory mags? Thanks again!

Unless they say otherwise, all mags are Kahr. The only other one I've heard of is Pro Mag, and they are regular steel... and no "glowing" positive reports on those. Ivanhoe Warehouse Outlet is one of the best places with decent prices and $5 USPS Priority shipping for your whole order... FAST service, too. But most outlets don't have any in stock... "shortage" and buying frenzies and all.

when u buy anything on line .... ASSUME NUTTIN. If I was gonna sell kahr mag, then I would think I would state these are kahr factory magazines. Sayin nuttin leaves me to wonder . I wold not want to get a Pro-Mag at any money, some work OK, reviews as why stated are not glowing reviews. If in doubt call and ask if they don't tell u in the advertisement, or if u really don't care, they u can probably return them--maybe..
error on the side of caution.
