Hello ladies and gents. The name is Jason, I'm completely new to kahrs...currently have a PM40 in jail, have about 5 days left before I can pick it up (great o' california). Anyways, I was referred to this site by a fellow Calgunner, and was told what a great site this is to gather information and make kahr friends. :D

Welcome to the forum, Jason. you'll enjoy the Kahr, especially if you're familiar to the .40. I have a Mag-na-ported P40 that I bought on our Marketplace and got a ported Glock 23C in February. The Glocks are too big to CCW for me, but that's why a have a stable of Kahrs... or a garage.:D
Here's a bunch of info and links that you can peruse... there are a lot more... but you can hit the ground running with your new toy when it gets out of jail.:D
Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by K a h r Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!
Take down and re-assembly videos:

K series:

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:
http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14750
Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?
One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.
Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.
Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

PS: I keep thinking of stuff to add and help new members... and am trying to cover most of the popular subjects. Yes, it's repetitious to many, but possibly not to all new members. This approach is easier than having to look up every tidbit for each new member or question that arises. :)

Yes, California is notorious with their gun control. I think it's silly... the assembly are passing more ridiculous bills. And if they get approved, I'm out of here!

Best start packing pal, with the rivalry between CA and NY etc they will put heavy emphasis on the ridiculous.
Pick up Old Lincoln and his lovely bride on the way out will ya, it's high time he lived in a free state too, course a year from now there may not be any, just some more free than others.

An update with the Kahr PM40...
After getting it out of jail, I proceeded to the range after taking the necessary steps to prep the gun before shooting (thanks kahrtalk).
(first range trip with pm40)
-First mag, fired 1st round. 2nd round FTF. 3rd round jammed. shot remaining 2 rounds.
-Second mag (6rounder), 1st round got stuck in the mag and would not load after releasing slide. cleared it, fired 1st round. All remaining rounds FTF each time and 1 FTE.
-Third mag (5rounder), FTF 2nd round and 4th round.
-Fourth mag (6rounder), 1st round stuck in mag again, would not load after releasing slide. FTF every other round.
It remained this way up to 3 boxes of ammo. (remington umc's)
And by this time, my hands were beat up and hurting and thinking to myself, wtf was I thinking...buying this gun. But nonetheless, I didn't give up on it. BTW, Whoever said the recoil on this gun is "OK" is crazy. This thing is snappier than my XDS 45.
2nd range trip not as bad as first.
I brought the same ammo with me, and it seems to like it better a bit this time. There were still some sporadic FTF's but was okay. (I brought some gloves this time haha)
3rd range trip, only miwall reloads this time. shot about 100rounds with only 1 FTF. ahhhhhhhh feeling a bit relieved, its starting to feed the ammo with no problems. starting to like this tiny thing.
4th range trip...today 4/30. brought along miwall reloads, remingtons, and blazers. Shot flawlessly with NO PROBLEMS. I'm now a very happy owner. Hogue Jr. grip and trijicon NS on order along with a crossbreed iwb. :D
sorry, this post is long as !@#$

Welcome elusive916. Glad you had patience thru the break in. It's a little frustrating to read about shooters complaining within the first 50 rounds. Sometimes the best advice is to just hang in there like you did. It's encouraging that your reloads are running fine. Kahr advises against reloads but I suspect it's a little cya given the guns' tight tolerances vs. the unknown reload quality (depends on the reloader).
Any insight into your name? anything to do with Porsche?
Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new Kahr.

Miwall reloads are top quality. Haven't had one dud or problem. I honestly think they're better quality than a few of the brand names out there. I was quite shocked to see the gun take the reloads better than the remingtons.
This is the same name I use for all forums, easy to remember and I like the definition lol. but no affiliation with Porsche.

Just wondering because Porsche 916s are indeed scarce (elusive if you are trying to buy one).

I'm glad you got that PM40 tamed and working for you.:D
I had always heard that the .40 was pretty ferocious. I finally shot one two years ago when my just-retired LEO younger brother and his wife came to visit us... from Commifornia where he was a corrections officer. It was some kind of compact XD40 and didn't seem too fierce. I got to thinking about a K40 and having it Mag-na-ported. Someone had a pretty new Mag-na-ported P40 for sale here so I bought it. I had some problems with it... extractor needed relieving a bit so that the case rims would fit easily and chamber. It took a few range trips to figure that out, but finally got it reliable and it became my main carry. I just put some Big Dot Night Sights on it and it was shooting low... even though I thought I was aiming higher. I got a .40 LaserLyte cartridge and I seem to do well with that, so maybe I'll get the sights sorted out and start carrying it again.
After Barry and his gang started talking about banning Hicap mags and pistols, I decided I needed some Glocks, so I bought a G23C... ported .40 compact for me, and a G19 for Wifey. I bought a 9mm LaserLyte cart for that one first so that we could try to figure out what sights to put on the G19 for her poor eyesight... near vision.
I have Yellow FS Trijicon HD NS on my XD45 and HD's with Orange FS on my G23C. With the white Big Dots on the P40 we should be able to see which one would be best for her. I should have the .45 LaserLyte cartridge tomorrow or the next day from Midway. I'll put whatever type of sight that seems to work for her on the G19 and let that G19 replace the H&R 9-shot revolver loaded with Stingers that's "her" bed-defense gun... after some familiarization with the G19 and some range time. Guns are okay with her, but she doesn't care about shooting a lot... would rather shop. She spent 20 years in the Air Force and had to stay qualified with the S&W .38's... never had the 9mm autos.
Anyhow, back to you. If you want, you can always have the slide and barrel Mag-na-ported to help with the recoil. That little PM40 must be ferocious! If you're not familiar with the .40, that can come as a shock. Some ammo isn't as bad as most in recoil. The last I shot was Independence by CCI using pretty Blazer brass... very bright and high recoil. The PPU 180-gr FMJ is pretty mild when compared with most of the other .40 ammo.
