Hey guys, just brought a new CW9 home. Im open to, and appreciative of any advice from other CW9 owners about its preferred diet JHP&FMJ and any break in tips or tricks. Right off the bat I noticed a failure to feed with Hornady 135 gr critical duty. Im guessing due to the rubber cavity insert? Feed ramp seems a bit picky or finnicky. Also doesnt seem to prefer Sellier and Bellot 115 FMJ although nowhere near as bad as the critical duty rounds. I've read about these issues and am aware of the recommended 200 round break in period. I don't have the nickel plated feed ramp. Would a good dremel polishing of the feed ramp be in order? Any good advice is appreciated. Thanks!

u have a nickel plate feed ramp,.allkahrs do. if u have a dremel, any polishing cannot hurt it .

Look at the kahrtech section. somegood stickyj's there.

#1kahr lube chart is a dandy

32 propper prepping thread is a good stickly, read it, check things out.

#3 wyns new membersticky is excellent.

these three stickys will get u a fun first event shoot. U bopught a damnnice kahr, u really should be good to go out of the box but trust me, if u do the preps and recommendations ask of you andtake some time before that first shoot to get to know ur kahr even better, u will never regret ay of it.

Good forum here, so welcome and askquestions if in doubt.

Use the side release leverto load that first round until you get the hangof handracking. I am gonna assume ur issue with the hornady could be from tryingto hand rack that first round. Owners manuals tellsu to do other wise.

I would also advise breakingin with fmj ammo not that high dollar stuff untilthe run is runningright then go to the defenseround of ur choice and the Hornady is a good round.

Break it in with a couple hundred rounds of FMJs. Then it will probably eat anything, including the Critical Duty.

Mine is reliable but not too accurate with russian 115 grain steel case ammo.

After a few hundred rounds mine felt like a different gun. It was finicky at first, but eats whatever I give it now. If you still have trouble after the break in period you can get some great advice here or contact Kahr.
Have fun with your new Kahr, the CW9 is one hell of a little CC gun.

Be sure to do the recommended break-down, cleaning and lube before firing anything (too late?). I followed all of the recommendations for my CW9, then my first 2 trips to the range were flawless with a 300+ round mix of Speer, PPU, Fiocchi and CCI FMJ's as well as Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Duty and Golden Saber JHP's.

And thoroughly read the customer booklet that came with the gun, it also has important tips about what will help you get to know your new friend. And welcome.

Thanks everyone! Great advice, I will check all of it out. Haven't put any rounds through it yet Nuke, just cycled a few rounds through it. I think I might polish up the feed ramp tonight. There was a cw40 in the shop that had a feed ramp that looked like chrome or nickel. Mine doesn't look nearly as shiny although maybe it will after a good buffing. I'll definitely check out the charts as well as be sure to read the pamphlet. My magazine seems to be equally as stiff and tight as the action is. Will it break in too along with the gun? The first round is dragging the second round out of the mag. I cycled rounds through it and tried the slide release method. Works sometimes and sometimes not. When the mag gets inserted with the slide forward, it is pushing the first round down slightly horizontally and straight at the feed ramp instead of angled up diagonally towards the chamber. Seems like the follower in the mag may be the cause or a stiff mag spring so I guess I'm wondering if this too remedies itself during the breakin period? At any rate, I'm really looking forward to getting out to the range with this little beauty! Thanks again for all the great advice guys!

1. The Kahrs do not hand cycle well when brand new.
2. Everything is stiff and needs to be shot in. The mags will loosen up a bit.
3. Don't go hog wild on the polishing. Especially if you use a DLT (Dremel like tool.)
4. For the first 200 rounds or so, load the first round by using the slide release. Then try slingshot method.
5. Read the manual and all of the stickys in the new owner section.

Have never had any problems with mine since new that weren't caused by me (my at times crappy reloads).

Have fun but not too much :)

Oh, yea. Welcome to the forum.

Like everyone said above...if you can find ammo shoot the heck out of it. Practice different drills and become proficient with it. Kahrs pistols are a lot of fun to shoot. Congrats...

If a few hundred rounds don't settle it in look for wear marks on the chamber block (part that fits into the ejection port). Kahrs are noted for close tolorances, some too close. Mine was jamming fairly often and showed wear marks on the block. Used a Dremel and Flitz to relieve the tolorances around the block a little. Mine is a P9 (same thing) and that was in 2002. That cured it and it's been hanging around with me for 11 years now.

I have run a few hundred rounds through my cw9, and have not had an FTF or FTE from the get go. It eats all brands of FMJ and JHP without issue. I did clean the dickens out of it before it was ever fired and do so after every range trip.

I see no problem polishing the ramp. I had a Makarov that I had to take 400 grit wet sandpaper and polish the ramp due to FTF problems. You could see horizontal lines (groves) across feed ramp. Took those down and fed like a champ after that. This was a bit extreme and yours certainly does not need to go this route. Just saying polishing the ramp won't do any harm....if done in a moderate manner.

I followed the stickies here and have over 1500 under through my CW9 and never once had an issue. Great gun comfortable to shoot unless you grip it to tight like my wife likes to do. Get a couple hundred rounds, and I don't think you will have a problem with the Critical Duty. I have 100+ rounds of Critical Defense with the same rubber insert, and have no problems what so ever.

Enjoy shooting the great gun you have and the guys and gals on here are great with answers for any questions you might have.

corbon powerball is very similar and they were designe dto feed easily. One reason why I shoot um in my P380.. I feel good with that round..

I use Pow'rball in my K9 and CM9 as carry load. Love them. Extra lil snap and never fails to feed. Perfect round for a Kahr.

You have been given all sorts of good advice.

Take the mag apart and note the orientation of the spring. It is possible that the spring is in backwards. Be very very careful, might do the work inside some sort of baggie as the spring is lible to get away from you and send that lock plate a flyin. (mine got away from me a couple times but I was able to find it, wish I had used the baggie trick...)

I would forget about worrying which round it will shoot and just obtain some FMJs and run em thru to break it in. Give it about 400 or so THEN find out which JHP it likes or doesn't.

IF you still have issues after 500 rounds then you want to look into what is causing them. There are a couple mag fixes posted on the forum for different issues and stuff posted for other issues as well. IF you can not find them by looking yourself come here and explain the issue as best you can and someone will find it for you. (they always do)

There's a multitude of 9mm available on line and if you're patient you can find decent range ammo for under 40 cents/round. I'm actually overstocked in a few calibers.
