OK. Where to start? First, I love my CM9. It is without question a great starter pistol. I ended up having to go by myself to a nearby indoor range as my gun buddies were all tied up with family things, and I couldn't wait any longer to test my new-to-me pistol.

My range time was limited to 30 minutes; but I did manage to put 75 rounds down range. I tried some Sellier & Bellot, some Blazer, some Magnatech, some Guard Dog, with the rest being some reloads from a friend. Everything worked fine with only one hangup midway through a magazine of reloads. My accuracy wasn't too bad either, I think ... at least I was pleased with it anyway. I'm pretty sure I managed to put about 75% of my shots inside the 6" yellow circle.

And to top it off, all this was done on an outing with my wife. I dropped her off at a Home Goods so she could do some shopping while I went to the range. Then when I was done I picked her up and we went antique hunting. I carried in my Kydex IWB holster appendix the whole time.

It felt good ... thanks guys.

Congrats on a successful day! Sounds like fun. Unlike me who just finished 4 hours of yard work. :(
Oh well, maybe next weekend.

Oh well, maybe next weekend.

It's the first nice Saturday we've had up here in Connecticut where Spring yard work would have been on tap. But I managed to redirect my wife with the promise of shopping.

Dang, Ray, I thought that I sent congrats and all... came back this evening and nada! Must have pushed the wrong button or sent the post to the wrong thread! It wouldn't be the first time!

Congrats on your first pistol, range trip and CC! I can't imagine going anywhere without one of my Kahrs. I mailed my taxes today and I can neither confirm nor deny being armed! I did switch to my PM9 from my P9 for the day... for a while, anyhow.

I hope to play with the rest of my new toys this week! I ran across one of my favorite movies... Shooter... and am watching it on commercial TV... even though I have the DVD and have seen it several times!:D

Ihope that you get a chance for a longer and more relaxed range trip soon... and the ammo, too!

Wynn:)

Congrats! That sounds like a great day. Mine was yard work and then changing 20 smoke alarm batteries as evening came in.

I'm trying to decide if I have enough ammo to burn some up tomorrow.

I did do 350 double action dry fires on each of my CZs this morning. I couldn't tell much difference in the triggers, but I did have a blister when done. They already had over 200 rounds through them, and I might not have been very trigger sensitive by the time I was done. The triggers are nice and smooth though.

Glad you had a great day!

Darn, Ray, you broke your cherry. Do you know what this means? Shooting the CM9 can become addictive. Your hooked now, Ray. Glad to hear that all went well. Congratulations.

So, I went to the range this morning with a friend of mine for my second trip out with my CM9. All in all it was a great time. Like I said after my first trip when I had to go alone, it's much more enjoyable shooting with someone else than it is alone ... at least for me anyways.

I shot 130 rounds during which time I learned an awful lot ... about things related to the gun and things related to me.

Regarding the gun, I had two FTL's(?)(Failures to Load?)(am I using the right abbreviation?). Both occurred on the 2nd round of my only 7-round magazine. I had an FTL the last time out with the 7-round mag, and I think it was also the 2nd round then too. The other thing I noticed was that I am very partial to the grip extender on the 6-round mags. I have two 6-round mags with extenders and one without, and I did not shoot as well without the extender at all. So I need to get an extender for that one.

Regarding myself, I noticed that for training sessions it appears that I'm only good for about 100 rounds. After that, no matter how hard I tried I could not seem to get my shot groups to come together. And during the whole session, my absolute best shot group (12 rounds all within a 3-4 in circle) occurred at somewhere around the 50-60 round count. Also, I think I am really getting to like to Kahr trigger. My shooting partner said that he noticed that I don't seem to flinch much at all. He said he could tell that I pull through the whole length of the trigger very smoothly. The reason my shot groups aren't any better than they are is because at 66, my hand tends to shake a little bit. But maybe I can work on that by concentrating on things like breathing better, etc.

So, it was a very good and informative session. I love my little CM9, and my shooting partner liked it too. He had never held or fired one before, and was quite surprised at how light it was.

Take care everyone, and have a good rest of the day.

I think 100 rounds is about it for anybody. Things start to go down hill at that point.

I shake a bit too, I use isometrics. Push with the strong hand and pull with the weak hand, kind of helps control the shakes.

Your still way new which isn't a bad thing since your not going from a different platform but learning on the Kahr trigger. Keep hitting the range with 50 - 100 round trips and things should get better and better.

I suspect your malfunctions will get better with more rounds too. If hey continue we'll sort it out. Try to note specifically everything when a malfunction occurs, where it gets stuck, what round, what mag etc.

Your having fun, that's the main thing. Good for you.

I was able to get out to a local fish & game club today (thanks to a member of my church who belongs) for a little while before the rain rolled in. I put 80 rounds (half reloads & half American Eagle) down range with no failures of any kind.

But best of all was my shot group. The 80 rounds shot at 25 feet could easily fit inside a 5-6 inch circle, pretty much center of mass. This means that all the dry firing I've been doing is paying off, because I'm no longer shooting low & left. I really am feeling good about my shooting and great about my CM9.

And I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we feel good about you and your shooting too.

Nicely done.

Way to go, Ray! That's really fine shooting! :D The CM9 is an accurate gun. It's like Jocko says, gun and shooter have to meld. It sounds like you are there.

More and more, I am practicing point and shooting with my CM9, J frame and TCP, not using the sights. I want to get to where I can shoot one handed from waist or mid chest high at 21 feet and hit pretty close to what I am aiming at. I really believe that is the best technique for sudden self defense situations, not having to pause to line up sights. There have always been some small self defense pistols that have no sights or just a groove on top of the gun. My TCP has tiny blued sights that are part of the slide, and they are only marginally useful for slow aiming and shooting at the range on a bright, sunny day. The same can pretty much be said for my J frame, though I intend to paint the front ramp bright red when I get around to it.

Congrats on your CM9, and your diligence with practice - both dry fire and range time. It sounds like you're off to a great start in understanding your weapon system and yourself as a shooter.

Interesting note, a friend of mine who is a professional Smith and worked as one for the AMU says anything over 50 rounds is just waiting ammo. I know for my range trips I've been cutting down lately and focusing on specific drills. Stick with what works best for you and your training. Especially with the price and lack of availability of ammo.
