Anyone got a recommendation for a good gunsmith in the Northern Va or Shenandoah Valley area?

I can find listings for plenty, but I am of the type who doesn't trust anyone and would rather do things myself, BUT when it comes to my new pistols I feel I should probably seek out a trained "professional".

All I am needing done is the installation of a new rear Novak 2-dot sight on each of my CW45s. I just want the gunsmith that goes the extra mile to be cautious and not scar or mar anything.

Ah heck, I should probably just buy a sight pusher and do it myself!

What do you guys think of this model?

Great gun. Why not send it off to Kahr and have them install them? They got the tools and the know how and your sure to get it back nice. If you do it yourself the sightpusher is a great asset but it doesn't make it a cake walk either. Some of those Kahr sites are really squeezed in there and sometimes a little finese and fitting is required to get the new ones back in. The sight pusher just don't make it for putting the new ones in. If your dealing with night sights it requires even more care and tactfulness. I'm not sure what Kahr charges for this but it might be money well spent and sight pushers alone at least good ones are not cheap either. Alot for a seldom used tool for sure.

Probably because I don't want to wait, would rather have a quicker turn around by not having to include the ship time (and possible back log) each way.

Other than that no reason. I don't mind paying for quality work, just need to find someone I am comfortable with.

Thanks for the response.

I think the turn around time for most places is pretty quick. Of course it pays to call first and confirm. I've sent to trijicon before and Robar in AZ. Seems I've heard here that Kahr is pretty fast also.
Course if you can find a local with the right stuff, you might be able to stand there and watch it happen. We had a guy about an hour from us that was good, sadly he moved to far away and was semi retiring. Hate it when you find a good guy and then you have to start all over.

VAguy,
I'm with you here. I did the sights on my CW45. The rear sight was a pain to get off. I actually did a little damage to my pusher and used a punch to drive the sight the rest of the way off. Careful fitting of the new sight made it's installation much easier. There are some photos of my sights installed in this thread: http://kahrtalk.com/p-cw-series-pistols/572-cw-night-sights-available.html
That thread also has information on costs and turn around time if Kahr does the work (plus some photos of their installation work). I'm glad I did my own, that way if they had ended up marred I knew who to choke;)
Regards,
Greg

Contact Virginia Arms in Manassas. They have a gunsmith there that does excellent work on pistols, certified armourer for several brands. I'd call first to see if he works on Kahrs.
