Under some combination of magazine in/out slide racking, trigger pull etc the firing pin will be sticking out.
You can slide it back, but do I have some sombination of timing screwed up or what?
I don't get how it only happens sometimes

No worries! That's just how a striker works. There is no spring to pull it back, so until it is c o c ked again it may protrude. This is most noticeable when you are dry firing.

Oh, and that word is stretched out so that the evil word catcher doesn't. ;)

Watch this video to see that the slide returning to battery resets the striker when the gun is fired normally. It won't reset the striker if the gun is dry fired, because the slide does not cycle. There is nothing wrong with your gun.

basically th firing pin will stick out until the slide is retracted at leat a 1/4- 1/2" and then the cocking cam will grab that striker and hold it back oike it should be, but until that happens the striker is free wheeling so to say. what ur seein is normal.

Thanks guys, I was just confused cuz the manual says to check and if it sticks out, the slide was installed wrong

In normal firing with live rounds I think that the retracting then sudden forward movement of the slide would keep the pin retracted but if the pin is forward while loading the first round the round as it slides up the breechface can hit the protruding firing pin. The pin is not pulled back by the cocking cam until the slide is about half way closed. I make sure my pin is back before I load the first round.
