Fellows I recently impulse bought a case of Tula .380 steel case ammo because the price was good.
It is okay to shoot steel case ammo in P380s? Also has anyone tried Tula in their P380, if so how did it run?

I think ur gonna regret that buy. Steel cased ammo will fire out of "some" kahrs but IMO the little P380 deserves filet migon rounds, not "junk" style ammo. Now u can totally prove me wrong on this and report back that the TUL ammo works pefrfectly, which in that case ur P 380 is one fokking amaozing kahr and it should also feed and shoot 9mm rounds perfect to. Just sayin
My well broken in K9 hates Steel cased ammo , again all kahrs are different so my opinions are just mine and I mean no offeense, but u did ask..
Although not a .380, my CW9 has no problem digesting steel cased ammo, although NOT Tula. When I took my CW9 out to shoot the first 2 times, I ran about 5 or 6 differnt brands of FMJ and 2 brands of JHP thru it. It's nice to know what the gun is ok with. So now when I see some of that inexpensive, non-premier ammo at bargain prices, I have no qualms buying it for the range OR defense.

Thanks for the replies guys. I understand shooting cheap ammo is not ideal but when you can get a box of 50 for $10 a box it's hard to pass up in this day and age.
I'm planning on bringing a box next range session to see how it goes. I'll be a happy camper if all goes well.
I should also mention my Kahr P380 is well broken in with over 1500 rounds through it, so that might help.
Look forward to hearing from anyone who has tried Tula in their P380. :D

I have used Tula, Wolf and Blazer aluminum in different calibers and in different guns and have never had a problem with it. I have used them in my P380, CW9 and PM9 as well as my Beretta, Sig, Colt, Randall and S&Ws and will buy them when I can find it. I don't reload so this is another plus as far as I'm concerned.

Tula has worked in my 9mm but I have only shot one box. If it doesn't work for you I might be willing to buy some of it from you for an LCP I have.
.380 is $20 a box around here so what you paid is OK. Watch for squib loads though.

I'll consider your offer if the Tula does not run in my P380. You have first dibs if I decide to sell the case which will be 19 boxes of 50, assuming I shoot one.
I'm perplexed. You've already made the purchase, so why solicit opinions/reviews now? Just go out and shoot it.

Dear Perplexed.
He made the purchase and now he's second guessing himself. He doesn't want to ruin one of the best .380 autos on the market. What's not to understand? I'm with Jocko on this one. Brass is a far better metal to use in a pistol or rifle cartridge and the only thing that I'll run through my fine firearms. Of course I reload to save money, so my opinion may be biased. Blazer Brass and PMC ammo is comparatively inexpensive and I'd go with that long before the Russian crap.

I've used it once before and except for a couple of duds, it worked fine. The last box i bought wouldn't chamber in my P380, or buddies Sig P238. It did work well in his CZ 83 though.
I don't buy it anymore.....

I am planning on bringing some of the Tula .380 with me this weekend shooting, I'll remember to post back here with a report.
I have 500 rounds of Tula 9mm through my Glock 26 with no issues, so I am hopeful.

My P380's are reliable only with powerful "boutique" ammo - I'm not much of a fan of steel case - for an excellent test of steel vs brass on .223 / 5.56 check out the Lucky Gunner Blog (Google it) It's a different caliber but some of the information is probably applicable.
Suprisingly, I have had very good luck reloading for my P380's - Go figure - the little guns eat up my hand loads - makes you wonder how consistent the bulk stuff is - because my hand loads aren't all that great. I use 95 grain fmj and some 80 grain copper bullets I bought from Midway. I load with Tightgroup at about max in the Hodgdon load manual. You feel kind of stupid picking up 380 brass at the range - but hey, times are tough!

Steel isn't the best material for shell casings. Brass expands during the pressure of firing and then contracts. This ability makes brass ideal as it is soft and seals the chamber during firing and doesn't cause added wear to the pistol. I would want to break in my new pistol with a quality FMJ from a reputable manufacturer... not the cheapest stuff available... but nowadays, you have to consider using what you can find when it's available. I would stick to brass or aluminum-cased ammo... unless you just can't find any!
