I had a problem with the frame. The small screw that holds the the slide latch would keep comming loose. I talked to Kahr and they had me send the to them. Turn around time was about 10 days. The screw was stripped in the poly frame. They replaced the frame. I spoke to a tech and commented that is a poor drsign. They told me they are working on a new design. We should keep a close watch. This problem could also be on other models.

If they do that, I wonder if there will be a retro-fit on older guns, but I guess it would be more fiscally viable to replace frames on an "as needed" basis. I think putting a Heli-Coil into the frame for that screw to turn into makes more sense than the current "screwing straight into poly" arraignment.

I was even thinking about a tiny chicago screw, same concept as the Heli-Coil I guess. Certainly something more solid to screw to than tupperware.

to me it is a pi-s poor design but that being said, they really give no issues. Yours is the firs(corretion, 2nd) that I have read of a stripped screw, And they must be 100 thousands kahrs floating around out there with this little screw in .. That is why I never recommend messing with that little screw for it does screw right into the polymer frame and that screw has fine threads and is very short, but again I have over 25,000 rounds out of my pM9 and never had to touch that screw for any reason. Unless one damages that slide lock spring by improper assembly, that little springy will not wear out either, so I guess it works OK, but I do think that little screw should screw into a metal insert.
Do I think they will retro fit the older models that we have ??NO. I would not send mine back for a retro fit even if they did, as "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". They really are trouble free IMO but again don't mess with it..

models just had a press in polymer pin with a head on it and it seemed to work OK also, why they went to this screw is har dto tell, Actually that screw realy doesn't hold that spring dead tight either. That spring has to have some springhy play in it, so that little screw is basically just a keeper of the spring, sorta. the problem with messing with it,,, is just what is tight enough as it is all done by feel and we allhave different feels.....:19:

astrorat recently had the same problem with his PM45: http://kahrtalk.com/18663-post49.html
Who knows, maybe a couple screws got over torqued recently: certainly doesn't seem pandemic. Thanks again for your post (especially in regards to tech's comments)

This was like buying a new gun. New ser# and had to be sent to a FFL.

I have been told by kahr that it is the law that states the serial number on a gun dies with that gun, any replacement must be a different numbjer. , so there fore back to a FFL for reregistration and additional cost.
