I am guessing this has been asked a thousand times, but for a fairly... (i hate to use the word delicate) soft handed gal, what type of grip would you suggest for my CM9? I have heard that the checkered pattern on the gun will absolutely kill my hands and, being the pansy that I am, I would rather not have that happen.

Any and all advice is more than welcome.

Have a look at post #28, SouthSound's grip on his CM9. Looked so good I bought one too. Haven't fired it yet, but it does fill my hand better, which is what I was hoping. The checkering is a bit harsh but not bad for my hand. I fired all 200 rounds on breakin and nothing was sore, but it is raspy textured. The Lone Wolf grip is much kinder to skin I'm sure.

(I just got my Kusiak today and it is every bit of top notch quality he mentions. I'm glad I got it, it is very comfortable for IWB carry.)

Hope this helps.

That's the qwik grip and my hands down favorite of the rubber wraps. It looks very clean and like it's made for that gun.

I used an old innertube, then graduated to a Hogue, then stippled mine. Made it a nice gripping surface but not nearly as aggressive as factory.

I tried in the past a couple of the factory made slip on helpers. Gave them to my kids. I tend to use the free at a bike shop used inner tube , 1.75 size cut to fit . Covers most all the grip. Its a cc pistol so to me looks is not in the mix!!

Only photo on I have is on the larger TP40 but have it on my cm and cw too.

When I first bought my CM9, I immediately installed a Hogue Jr. grip, because of what people said about the checkering being agressive. Turned out to be a pain in the butt. Always twisting around, so I got rid of it. I don't use any add-on grips now, and the checkering is no problem at all. If your going to do it, I would suggest the homemade inner tube grip mentioned by a previous poster.

To be honest, the problem area is the slide stop lever. It will tear your thumb apart in no time. Get a fine stone and round off and polish the edges.

I've been using the tire inner tube fix since nearly day one of owning my PM9. Still works for me. ;)

I have the Qwik-Grip (http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1150&CAT=84) on my CM9. Perfect! :D

The PM9 was my first polymer Kahr... first polymer pistol! That one didn't bother me, but the PM45 arrived about a month later, and when I first held that, I knew those cheese grater nibs would really bite. I had an unused 1.75" bike tire tube, so I cut a grip cover from that... WARNING... bike tubes have talcum powder inside so don't hold them over anything except maybe the kitchen sink! I cut one and it was too small, so it went on the PM9. The next one fit the PM45 and I love the texture and feel. It doesn't add appreciable bulk and it gives a good tactile grip... and prevents those sharp nibs from biting your hand.

Make smooth cuts so the rubber doesn't tear when you stretch it to put them on the pistol. Make sure that the rubber does not cover either side of the magazine catch, nor extend too low so that it slips down and interferes with insertion and removal of the magazines.

That 1.75" size works on all of the Kahrs and I put grip covers on all of mine... from the P380 to the PM45. The texture or feel is much like the soft rubber grips on the older K9's... just right.

This EDC thread shows quite a few pistols with the grip covers... mine's about halfway down the first page:

I personally added the Foxx grips on Foxxholsters website. They stick on and the are awesome. The other rubber grips always grabbed my shirt when I carried. The Foxx grips have not done that yet.

Thank you so much, everyone. I think I will try the innertube first and go from there. My husband seems to think I will be fine. We will see :)

JUst got back from testing out the CM9 for the first time. I will definitely need to get something to cover the checkering. My hand aches like crazy.

Well, the Qwik-Grip will cushion it and absorb recoil. The inner tube won't. Plus, it adds just a little bit of bulk which really makes it handle right. And like Bawanna said, it fits like it was made for the PM/CM9 guns; with it pushed up as far as it will go, it lines up perfectly at the bottom edge just above where the polymer curves in toward the mag. Makes it look so "right" on there. I love th way I can so positively pick up and handle the pistol with that tactile rubber grip on there. I have very crippled hands, yet I have never dropped my gun. :)

LOL! As I was sitting here typing this reply, I started to reach into the drawer where I keep my gun when I am not wearing it. Then, I realized that it is sitting in the PJ IWB holster behind my left hip, where it has been all day long. It continues to amaze me how "forget it is there" comfortable this gun/holster combination is! :D

For a small hand though and for trial purposes the inner tube would be the ticket.

It's thin enough that it allows the rather aggressive pattern on the grip to show thru but the tube takes all the bite out of it.

The Qwik Grip does add just a bit of bulk. If you have smallish hands I'd try the tube first. The Qwik Grip as I recall is not terribly expensive so even if you get one and don't like the bulk your not out much.

I love the Talon grips on my CM9. Made a big difference and they look perfect (just make a clean cut when installing)

+1 on the Talon Grips. Very different than the Qwik-Grip in that the Talons will not appreciably increase the size of the grip, and the Talons look and feel excellent.

I had read back some time about the inner tube and thought I had written down the size of tube that works best on the PM/CM9s but now can't find it. Would you by any chance recall the tube size needed for the grip?

I think it's 1.75. Wynn had a post that mentioned it.

The 1.75" is a good size. You don't want a big loose one that moves around. That size works on P380s up to the PM45.The rubber does stretch and it gets easier to move the grip around.

+2 on the Rubber Talon Grips. Have 'em on my CM9 & G26, couldn't be happier. Really don't even know they're there & takes away the "Cheese Grater" feel. Pic of mine so you can visualise. :D

Hogue jr for me. I used windex on the frame and slide it on. Then heated and dried with a hair dryer. Mine has been on 3-4 months now and has not moved at all. I think windex and a hair dryer are key. Guessing the heat molded the rubber a bit into the cheese grater grips and shrank the rubber for a snug and locked in fit.

Talon grip really did the trick on my PM40. My first trip to the range with the factory grips and 300 rounds really chewed my hand up.

I ordered and installed a Talon rubber grip, and absolutely LOVE it. Nice positive, consistent grip and ZERO discomfort, even after a couple hundred rounds.

One of the best $15 investments I've ever made. Looks and FEELS great!

I have the talon grips on my CM9 but I am running thr sand paper verison. I think that may work for you because it enhances the grip on the gun ten fold, you'll feel like you have a much surer grip but I dont think it will be too rough on your hands. The sand paper also really makes the gun look allot nicer.

I like the Hogue Handall Jr. It fits the PM9 just fine and stays in place. You'll need to possibly trim off some of the bottom if you locate where I have (to get a bit more room below the trigger guard and finger swell on the grip. Depends on the size of your hands. A Pearce Mag extension on the 6 round mag makes a big difference in getting a secure and firm grip on the firearm.

The grips front texture was like a cheese grater on my hands. A piece of bicycle inner-tube made all the difference for me.

++1 I love my Talon Grips (the rubber ones not the sandpaper type).
I have small hands and I did not want to add size to the grip.

The grips on these Kahrs are too small even for small hands. (Me, too. My hands are so small that small men's gloves are too large.) But I didn't want the palm swells or finger grooves of the Hogue Handall. So I went with the Qwik Grip which is not a whole lot thicker than an innertube, but looks much better with the even texture and smooth edges. And it feels just great, providing a very secure purchase on the gun yet is not tacky.

In fact, these Kahr grips are so small and the trigger reach is so short that I intend to experiment with something on the back of the grip under the Qwik Grip. Here is a post in another thread where I discuss it. (Now, if I would just get off my duff and do it!)
