View Full Version : Barrel cleaning with a brass brush

Does anyone clean the interior of the barrel with a brass brush that comes with most brand name cleaning kits? Just wondering if there is a possibility of damage if the barrel is cleaned this way once a week. One thing for sure is that you should go in the same direction as the bullet when cleaning this way!

I use a brass or copper brush with bore cleaner and push it all the way through the barrel from the chamber, and then carefully pull it back through and out... multiple times. I push a cloth/paper towel piece through afterward to get the majority of bore cleaner and other junk out before using oil and patches, followed by a lightly oiled patch to leave the barrel virtually "dry".

I've used brass brushes forever, never had a problem. The military uses brass brushes in their bores, no damage will be done unless you do something silly like pull it out crooked or manage to get something like steel shavings caught up in the brush. The only way I could see that last might happen is if you clean next to a drill press and set the brush down in the shavings. Even then remote chance. Use a proper sized brush, and don't try to change direction halfway down the barrel. Dip the brush in no.9 solvent, clean and follow with patches. If you use an eye instead of a jag, then you can scrub a little too, and get the solvent out a little quicker. Follow with dry patches until clean, then use an oil patch, twice, rotating 90 between passes. Presto clean barrel, and quick too.

Agreed! What he said. I avoid using a brush anymore than necessary but have no fear of damage when needed.

Nice! Is that Alba? I looked her up on the internet and really didn't blow my dress up to much. Couldn't even find my worm in the worm basket. Cute, just not a good match I guess.

I did Wynn, I did. I think I hurt myself, need better pants. Dang uniform pants. Yummy...anyway's brushes good, and I use them when needed, and when I switch over to patches I really don't use that many, the brush does 90+% of the work.

Same said for Jolie...and Hayak. FYI I heard on an interveiw or some such she gave that she bought the real H&K's from Tomb Raider. That did get some points in my book.

Dark Angel? that one of the scarey whore movies? Don't recall ever hearing of it but some say I lead a sheltered and conservative lifestyle. Shy and introverted, not very outgoing.

It comes on Sci-Fi on occasion. It's one of those she was bred to be a perfect soldier/assassin, and she got away from them and does good for the world kind of things.

She was bred? Right on the tv screen? I'll be hitting the old Blockbuster enroute to the home base tonight? I don't think our Blockbuster has a porn section, maybe why I ain't seen it.
We're suppose to stay gun oriented, was she holding her guns when she was bred? That would be almost double porn, guns and guns so to speak. Dang the lids coming off my worm basket like Orville Reddenbockers popcorn.

Not like that, as in genetic cocktail. And she uses guns on occasion. Besides Wyn brought it up...

That Wyn, I'm surprised he ain't banned from wandering around them shopping malls looking for scantily clad girls. Probably is banned but wears a disquise so the pervert police don't recognize him. Genetic cocktail huh? Sounds a little futuristic to this old steel and wood guy?

Hey! It's not hurtin' anything to leer... I mean look. I'm happily married, though she sure gives me dirty looks 'cause I'm always sitting here at the computer instead of doing some house work or something. Dang! I'm retired! And now I have to worry about all my pay coming from the government... which Prezbo is doing his darndest to bankrupt. Now the politicos are blaming us for being the problem... the ones that paid into the Social Security "lockbox", or cookie jar for the politicos about 40 years ago!
Now they want to make us buy their insurance and put huge fines on doctors if they don't do as little as ordered for next to no pay, and like it!
And some of you guys say we should be taxed more to get out of debt... Hah! They'll wind up taking all your money and giving you a hard time when you need medical care 'cause it costs too much and you're too old and useless... why should they waste money on old people who no longer serve a useful purpose.
Check out the movie Soylent Green.... Yummm. That's where we're headed!
End of rant for now... gotta cook supper and then watch some recorded TV with Wifey.
Just wait... all of you will be old some day.... Lots of luck with that Social "Security" you've been paying into and the politicos have been spending... and giving to the non-producers... all those people and kids that are getting SSI payments.

I love ur avitar, "we can dream can't we"?

No, not at you guys, though some on the forum thought we should pony up some more money to the pols to pay off the national debt... like they would use it for that. Prezbo and crowd are too busy coming up with new "rights" for the unproductive bunch.
There are inalienable, "god-given" or natural rights and none of those require taking by force from productive citizens and giving stuff to the unproductive to buy their votes. That's theft and bribery no matter what THEY call it... "redistribution of wealth, indeed!

How did you get part of that reply?
You can cut and paste or highlight and delete what you don't want to post again.
Salmon(Steelhead trout) grilled to perfection with a fresh Romaine lettuce salad and my staple wine YT Merlot. Yum... full... want nap... must entertain Wifey after cleaning up.
I guess I'll wash down all my pills with a little merlot. Avoid doesn't mean NO alcohol.... Somebody said recently he had just had a beer... ONE beer... and would have to wait to clean his gun. Dang... now would be a good time, but mine are all clean. I'm safe... at home. We didn't need any sharp implements with the dinner... just a fork... and a nice wine glass. Ramble....
It's a wonder I'm in such good spirits... after yesterday... when I had to write a check for $1401 more for taxes... got back $390 last year... figured we had the withholding perfected about this time, however, we got extry stimulus money in the form of less withholding... which is still going on, and now they want that money back... and they are still not withholding enough. GRRR! I don't want to get much back and I don't mind paying a few hundred... that means they didn't use my money for a year without interest... not that you can get much interest these days. I'll bet the government charges a pretty penny for interest and fines, though. Darn... I thought I was going to clean up the kitchen and get ready to entertain my wife. She goes back to work tomorrow afternoon... and I do feel a little guilty with the "relief" I'll have to do a bit as I wish.
Oh, yeah... tomorrow I have a date, er appointment with my doctor and I get that special prostate test. I don't smoke, so I'll have to be content with the thermos of coffee waiting in my van, since I couldn't have any prior to the appointment, so my blood pressure won't be abnormally high.
What were we talking about... I don't want to ramble....
Okay. I'll do something else for a while. You guys and gals take care and have fun. See ya later.
