Picked this up last Monday. Followed the new owner instructions and put 200 flawless rounds through it on Tuesday. Cleaned and lubed and went back out today and about 60 rds in I had a FTE. Upon inspection the recoil spring was sticking out the front of a broken slide!
Anyone else see anything like this happen before? Any chance Kahr will just send me new parts? I don't want to be without for any length of time, I already sold the gun this replaced.

Update*
Got it back quick with great customer service. I'm just not too happy with the condition I got it back in. The gun I sent in was a fine example with not one blemish. It seems their quality control has gone down hill.
The machining on the new slide is poor is can be seen through the finish in a lot of places. The fit and finish just isn't all there. There is a little dent on the front of the slide above the barrel. The new takedown pin has several blemishes on it. And what irritates me the most are the sights. The front sight has a scratch down the top and a dent on the corner facing the shooter. The rear sight is visibly off center and looks like it was installed with a hammer and screwdriver.
I expected better than this :frown:
I already got Ok'd to send it back for inspection but it'd be on my dime this time. These problems are small and aren't worth it. I just think they should have been corrected before leaving the gunsmiths bench.
I will be asking for a new set of sights and takedown pin that I'll replace myself.
What do you think?

There's no way they'll just send you new parts! You need a new slide and recoil assembly and maybe a barrel... and some fitting and they'll want to figure out how that recoil spring receptacle was so thin that it failed! That's the first thing I've seen like that!

Email Kahr Customer Service with your serial number and those pictures, along with your explanation.

And, I believe they should pickup the shipping for this one, if they need the entire pistol.

If all they want is the slide and they don't want to send you a prepaid shipping label, only send the slide, which does not have a serial number and is legal to send via US Postal service. That should be relatively inexpensive.

Best of luck!

Just sent Jay an email with pictures. I should hope they would pick up shipping, I haven't even owned it a week!

I'm sure they will. That metal should have been much thicker and not have failed like that. Stuff happens, though.

They'll fix it.

Received an Email back from Jay already. Now That's service! On Sunday night to boot!

"Good evening. I am sorry to hear about the experience. If you can reply with your physical address and serial number I will have a return authorization setup for you so that we can inspect and repair your firearm at the factory. I apologize again for any inconvenience."

Hope to get this taken care of quickly.

Wow, mtnwkr, what a bummer! I've never seen anything like that. These Kahrs are built like tanks. The response from Jay is what I expected. It sounds like he is going to have the FedEx man pick it up at your door. Just put the gun well padded in a box. You probably won't have to label it; the FedEx man will handle that. I'll bet they'll get it back to you quickly because they'll just replace some parts. But I'm sure they are going to be doing some investigation to see what went wrong with that slide.

Well, rocky start, but I want to officially welcome you into the CM9 Owners Club, also known as The Big Grin Club!

So, welcome to the forum, mtnwkr! :) And welcome to the CM9 Owners Club! :D Our official symbol is the wide grin smily because we are so happy with our purchase that we can't wipe the smiles off our faces! I'm sure this will be your experience, too, once this is over.

Here is your club badge.

The best holster I have found for forget-it-is-there comfort 24/7 with my CM9 is the PJ IWB Holster (http://pjholster.com/?page_id=37). There are so, so many members here that will concur. Paul is a great guy and a real gun lover, and he performs magic with kydex - making the holster incredibly comfortable to where you can't tell it is there whether sitting, standing or moving about. It is like the mass of the gun disappears, becoming one with your body. I carry mine with a 15° cant just behind my hip - the sweet spot. I prefer the one linked above with the over the belt clip. I normally wear the above under a loose shirt.

...Funny, writing this reminded me that I have my CM9 in my PJ holster sitting behind my hip. It has been there all day, though I have to be reminded every now and then that it is there. I have lain down and taken a nap before with it on and, even when I rolled over on that side, I didn't feel it and didn't discover my oversight until I got up from my nap. I use an air bed, but still! :D

I'd confirm in your response to Jay but in your shoes I'd send it in the original box with everything just the way it came.
They may just send you a whole new gun.

That's obviously a manufacturing defect and they'll positively make it right with you. Being it's a slide for sure I'd want them to fit it and make sure everything is good to go.

some years back when I owned some of those junk kel teks. I had two thqat the recoil spring went right through the front of the slide and at that time they had alot of issues with that. It seemed that when the drilled or counter sunk the spot ofr the recoil spring to sit in they went to deep and the pressure of the srping etc, just ate its way righyt through the slide. they replced the slides on my two kt's no charge and all was well. they will replace this slide only as the gun is not the fault. That metal also on that slide had to be very soft also besides being thin. that is a first I have ever seen or heard of on any kahr. Guessit can happen.

I would send the entire gun back also. its on their dime.

that broken peace laying on the table is so so so thin, it is unbelievable. I would call that paper thin. I sure hope that is a one onlyt happening and not a run of bad slides going out the door. Looks to me like one of the machines that did this operation was way out of whack. My bet is we will see a few more of these before it goes away..

Already received an email with a return shipping label. Customer service has been excellent IMO. I'll get this out after fishing this morning.

Just put the pistol and the magazines in the original box and then put that in the smallest cardboard box that the case/box will fit in. They don't need the manual and lock. They will probably replace everything but the frame and its parts... not sure about the barrel, but with the new slide, they switch out a lot of parts.

I've done this a FEW times... PM45x5(once OK, mags splitting), P380#1x2, and P380#2x1. P380#1 was piggy-backed with PM45 on its 2nd trip.

If there's ANYTHING original on the PM45, "Franken-Boomer", it must be the slide lock. They did send me two of those... and I returned them because they weren't DLC. I think the bike-tube grip is original, too.:D I've only had problems with my brand new Kahrs... well, problems that took them back to the factory. The PM9 was my first polymer... LNIB and lost an ejector which Kahr replaced... otherwise, it has been trouble-free. I tuned and fixed problems with my P40, and my K9 has been pretty problem free... very tight chamber back in early '98 with some ammo and I blew an extractor out once on both the P9 and K9 testing some ammo for problems. Extractors are now in my spare parts bins!

Kahr will fix it for you.

Interesting for sure...

Like someone already said, maybe we will see more of these before Kahr gets a handle on it.

Possibly it's just a one of a kind freak happening.

IMO, Kahr will make it right.

LOL, my Saiga .308 had a front sight base pin put in at such an angle that it came through the top of the base. Calling around for a new sight base, a gunsmith in Texas commented that they must have done that sight base on "Vodka Friday" at Izhevsk:D

sights look like sh!t. the take down lever, it is a MIM part and that flaw can occur. U can file it smooth if u so desire but to be honest, "live with it" and just shoot it like u stole it.

Got a message back from Jay already. New sights and slide stop are on their way.
I'd really like to point out how awesome customer service has been. My emails have been replied in minutes most of the time, even on sunday evenings. My questions have been answered and shipping and turnaround were much faster than anticipated. I only wish the gunsmith that worked on this took as much pride in his job.
I'm heading out to put 300rds through her this afternoon. You all have a great day.

mtnwkr,
I'm in total empathy with you. That's shoddy work on the sights and that slide stop could easily been cleaned up (especially on a gun being turned around for a major part failure).
I do commend you for getting past all that and hitting the range: good shooting to you.

BTW, as you'll be replacing the front sight yourself, you might want to consider spending a few bucks and upgrading to a metal one.

Regards,
Greg
