Gang,

If any of you are coming to the NRA Annual Meeting, I will be at at the Kahr booth. Please drop by and say hello! I will be around all of Thursday and Friday. It is a good opportunity to handle all the products from Kahr, MRI, and AO. The latter includes SBR Thompsons that just torture me to look at. I must buy one of those before too long... :D

John, you're breaking my heart. I'd love to be there, but duty calls.

Houston? That's in Texas right?

One day we're gonna meet up at one of these things. I blew it when it was in St Louis, I blew it when it was in Vegas.

One of these days. I'd really dig meeting up with the whole Kahr gang. Be a great time.

We have to make that happen one of these days. If the NRA keeps moving the meetings around, they surely will end up close to you one of these years.

It was in Seattle about 20+ years ago, probably due to pass thru again sometime.

Wife is making me drive to Reno in April, maybe I'll get accustomed to road trips and just drive to the next one, might need a new rig or at minimum get my air conditioning fixed.

Dang if it was any further away I'd have to get a boat but course in Atlanta I might meet up with Melissa, that would be a plus. Course Mamaleader might get jealous, oh wait we're not cyber married yet.

Atlanta? Been there twice, don't plan on a third. My company wanted to transfer me there, but my father was dying, and I chose to stay close to my Dad. I had to go down there a couple times and train my replacements, and figured no way I could live there, or even close enough to the city that I could commute. Seems like half of Georgia is a suburb of Atlanta. I'd be a lot better off financially if I had made the move, but Dad said something to me not long before his death that made it all worthwhile. My Wife and 3-4 year old daughter spent the day looking after my parents while Dad was trying to fight the cancer and Mom was slipping deeper into Alzheimer's disease, and he told me "Son, having that little girl of yours around here really makes my day. I just love when she puts her little arms around my neck and gives me a big ole hug."
If that made my Dad's last few months a little better, screw the money. Dad was miserable enough having the love of his life not knowing who he was, most of the time, so I thank God I was able to help add a little happiness to his last days.
I think I'll go oil Dad's .22 and Browning Auto 5. Oh that Auto 5 is something, with that 30" extra full choke barrel. It's fun to hunt pheasant with, when one gets up, you let everyone take a shot, and if they miss, take a second or two, then let loose a 3" magnum of #4 shot and watch the jaws drop along with the bird. Hard to find those shells with lead shot anymore. And I'm not running any steel through that choke. I'd like to buy another barrel for it with choke tubes one of these days. Or it'd be nice to run into a shorter barrel with a poly-choke on it at a gun-show. Oh well, I don't hunt much anymore anyway, so doesn't matter I guess. I do wonder how it would do at sporting clays though, with a different barrel. It does pretty well for trap. Not a big trap fan though.

I will be there Friday, with my cm9 in my pants. I also love to look at the big MRI toys. I have a DE44, someday a BFR and a Lone Eagle.

Bawanna, I'm thinking of changing your handle from "Colonel" to "Bird Dog". My wife always told me that she didn't care where I got my appetite as long as I came home for dinner. :)

I only look and chat, never touch or I get the beating and the push from the top of the stairs. Not pretty.

Texas Heavyweights Welcome NRA Convention (http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/texas-nra-perry-cruz/2013/05/03/id/502755?s=al&promo_code=135FE-1)

Texas GOP heavyweights Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Ted Cruz welcomed the National Rifle Association’s annual convention on Friday, in a show of strength amid a national backdrop of mass shootings, fierce gun-control debates, and last month’s defeat of background-check legislation on Capitol Hill.

“Nobody likes gun violence, especially NRA members,” Perry told a rousing audience of NRA members during an afternoon rally at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston.

“By keeping guns out of the hands of those who use them properly and legally, they're only making it easier for predators to prey on the defenseless,” the governor said, referring to gun-control efforts by President Barack Obama.

“The National Rifle Association is the voice of experience,” he added. “It's the voice of common sense reminding everyone that a threat to gun ownership is a threat to the basic constitutional right.”

For his part, Cruz encouraged NRA members to continue to fight efforts to restrict firearm ownership.

“The Constitution matters. All of the Constitution,” the senator said. “It’s not pick and choose. It’s not take what part you like and get rid of the parts you don’t like.

“Every word of the Constitution matters,” Cruz added. “It is our fundamental protection of our liberties against the government.”

He also challenged Vice President Joe Biden to a debate on gun violence and gun rights. The debate could serve as a 2016 president campaign preview, with both men considering runs for the White House.

"The fight is not over," Cruz said, referring to efforts by Biden to revive gun measures in Congress.

“If Vice President Biden really believes the facts are on his side and this is not an exercise in political power, I would think he would welcome the opportunity to talk about the sources of violent crime and how we can do everything we can to stop it,” Cruz said.

Perry and Cruz were among several GOP supporters who spoke at the kickoff of the three-day NRA convention.

Others included GOP vice presidential candidates Paul Ryan — who spoke by video — and Sarah Palin, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and former presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck and rocker and NRA stalwart Ted Nugent are scheduled to speak this weekend.

In his speech, Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, praised the NRA as “warriors” defending the Constitution. The Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment “come from God.”

In working to defeat the background-checks legislation in the Senate last month, Santorum said the NRA “stood up when freedom was under assault. You stood in the gap. You made a difference.”

The legislation would have expanded background checks to gun purchases at gun shows and online.

More than 70,000 people are expected to attend the NRA convention, whose theme this year is “Stand and Fight.” Other activities include a gun trade show, youth day, and firearms classes.

Back from the show and had a great time! Lots of friendly folks in Texas. I need to spend more time down that way.

It was great to hang out with the gang from Kahr. The new products for 2013 were on display. First the CW380 (http://www.kahr.com/Pistols/Kahr-CW380.asp), sure to be a hot seller given its price point. A lot of people picked that one up.

The Massachusetts approved PM40 (http://www.kahr.com/Pistols/Kahr-PM40-w-External-Safety-and-LCI.asp) was there too. Good news for those of you coping with their gun laws.

The Thompson family gets a new model 1911 TC in stainless steel (http://www.auto-ordnance.com/Firearms/Thompson-1911TC.asp). This is a re-issue of a previous model offered a few years back. I can tell you the fit and finish was exceptional. It had a fantastic trigger that was crisp and light. Everyone who handled it wanted one.

From MRI there will be a new compact 1911. I don't have a link but did handle an early example. It actually had a lighter trigger than the 1911TC, and is a lightweight for easy concealed carry. MRI also had the 10" Desert Eagle on display (http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firearms/Magnum-Research-Desert-Eagle-44-Magnum-10-Inch-Barrel-Black.asp). For handgun hunters who want a semi-auto, this would be the model to get. Lots of barrel for extra velocity, and a top rail for mounting pistol optics. These are neat looking guns even if you do not plan to hunt.

We also had Jessica on site signing posters. I have to tell you she drew more of a crowd than me. I guess I need to work on my wardrobe. ;)

Please tell me you got me a signed poster of Jessica?

Ok, how about one of your signed posters, wardrobe needing improvement?

Holy smokes! Looks like a cyber bride to me.

Looks way way prettier there than in the poster to my well trained and experienced eye.

What a lovely creature.

I don't know if anyone has seen Glen Beck's speech at the NRA Convention. It's 90 minutes long, but it's a great speech, if you like Glenn Beck at all. It's from May 4th 2013. I thought he did a pretty good job.
