I would like to share my experience with DeSantis for anyone considering buying one of their holsters. This is their response I received from Daniel DeSantis about my "super fly" pocket holster losing its tackiness. This is a rubberized holster (not leather) I asked for his recommendations to restore the "sticky" of the holster. Told him I tried cleaning with Dawn Dish Soap to remove any body oils. Keep in mind, I did not ask for a new holster or for a return. Just a recommendation for cleaning.
I stopped buying thier leather holsters years ago due to poor quality. I should have know better. This is just my experience. Yours may vary.
The lifetime on our rubberized pocket holsters are approx. a year to year and a half depending on the use. Please note that by cleaning it with Dawn dish soap has now voided the warranty on the holster. I would suggest replacing the holster. I apologize for any inconvenience, have a good day.

Wow, that's kind of a sad response right there.
Life span of a year to a year and a half? That doesn't work for me.

Hey, you get what you paid for. Just sayin...
I have a black leather pocket holster for my J-frame from James Dean Gunleather (https://www.facebook.com/jamesdeangunleather). It's beautiful! It works perfectly and will outlast me. Check out his photos; you'll see two of the other holsters he has made for me!
And I have a kydex pocket holster for my TCP 380 from PJ Holsters (http://pjholster.com/?page_id=95). Indestructible.
I have 3 of the Stays-Put Ultra (http://www.concealmentspecialties.com/products.html) pocket holsters for 3 of my guns. Just $14.95 shipped. Like the name says, they STAY PUT in my pocket when I draw the gun. They also STAY PUT int the AIWB position behind a good belt. Very comfortable. Very well made. Not too bulky. Not tacky to the touch. Hide the shape of the gun well.
I also have a Nemesis for my TCP and an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster that I find usefull at times.

bummer about your holster...did it come with any cleaning instructions? if not how in the heck you suppose to know how to clean it. that is a pretty lame response.

Bingo.
To put this in perspective, the first box of ammo expended through the pistol carried in the Superfly cost as much as the holster.

I have Desantis holsters for my mk9 mk40 EMP & p238. They fit the guns well & have held up well but I did not put anything on them to treat them.

Kinda like having sex and then told after, congratulations I have an STD! That holster wasn't worth the Bad publicity you just posted towards this company. Was there ANYTHING that came with your product that specified NOT to use a particular product or type of product in the care of the holster? Small claims court is almost a garuanteed victory for you!

Lifetime of 1 year ??? Any mention of normal wear and tear excluded? that would make more sense.

nothing in instructions or disclaimer regarding cleaning.
I did not "treat" the holster. It is rubber and I used dawn dish soap. the same stuff they use to clean crude oil from live animals.

Dang! Who wudda thunk that using a soap that's known for getting rid of sticky stuff on things would remove the sticky, stay-in-place stuff that the Desantis uses for staying in place?
Sorry... just seemed a bit obvious... but maybe not.

I have a remora holster for my cm9 and it works great. I think it is similar to the desantis that the op has and on the remora website it specifically mentions using dawn dish soap to clean it. I think desantis may have lost a customer for life and after hearing your story I would never buy one of their products.

I've tried several pocket holsters over the years but I like the type you hook on the pocket when drawn. Have been leery of the sticky ones. I have a Pro-Tech I picked up recently for a TCP .380 and it's a winner. I picked up a couple of different ones for my CM9. I just got a Galco Pocket Protector for the little Kahr and love it. I'm old school and like leather.

This is the reason I have always used and will always use Galco Holsters for off-duty usage.
