So this morning my package from Kahr arrives on my front porch with my new Trijicon front sight, stainless steel guide rod and two extra magazines! I'm like a kid on Christmas morning! :D I immediately break down my CW9 and get to work. My front sight installs seamlessly! I mean no problem whatsoever with fit. My countersunk pinholes were already a perfect depth! After everything I've read about installing these I was ready to get busy with the dremel but nope. Not necessary. I checked and rechecked but its perfectly recessed. A dab o' locktight and in it went. On to the guide rod, of course it slips right in painlessly as is to be expected. Reassemble and my god what a difference! Smooth operator. No more crunchy abrasive sounds when racking the slide. Well worth the money IMO. That powder coat on the factory rod rubs off and mixes with the grease and made me a bit uneasy. So thats that. The two extra empty mags fit well and released smoothly.

So I decide to drop into my beloved LGS to see a man about a holster. Ive been reading reviews and testimonials and watching videos on youtube about the best holsters for a CW9 and so I had a pretty good idea what I was looking for. As it turned out, not a single holster in stock for a CW9 in leather, kydex, nylon, nothing. But on my way back to the counter I see a display full of these little beauties.....

Proudly manufactured in TEXAS!!! Figured all you TX Patriots would appreciate the plug! :D

Doesn't get much more slim than that I'd say for IWB carry. What do you all think? Anyone seen these yet? Am I the last on earth to know about these?

Just slide the barrel right onto the yellow peg and slide IWB. Over the belt clip. They didn't have any with a J-hook. But an over the belt clip isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me. Great little holster if I can even call it that. I love it so far. It takes a few on and offs to get a good fit inside the barrel. It made a few plastic shavings, so I slid it on and off a bunch until it stopped. A bit of grease over the peg helped a bit too.

Now on top of that, I go up to pay for the new holster and what do I see??? A huge pile of 9mm and .45 cal range ammo!!! 1 box per customer per day of each. They also had .45 Gold Dots HP so I added all three onto the tab! And did I mention they were all priced reasonably??? 21.99 for .45, 14.99 for 9mm, and 26.99 for the Gold Dot .45 HP's.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w372/growsaginaw/485534_10200748844619189_2017986134_n.jpg

Made a call to my Father and he zipped right over and bought a box of each as well. But he doesn't own a .45. My Mother doesn't own any guns but I managed to persuade her into making a trip up there too. :D

Recap: A new front Trijicon sight and installation that couldn't have gone any easier, new stainless guide rod, two extra mags, awesome new IWB holster, 3 boxes of .45 cal, 2 boxes of 9mm, 1 box of Speer Gold Dot HP, and one hell of a HAPPY CAMPER!!!

Oh, and the rain just stopped and the sun just began to shine. (not kidding)

All in all I'd say its been one hell of a day!!! So, I think I'll go for a walk with my Lab and soak up a few rays along with a bit of fresh air. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket........

KKing, It has a trigger guard on the pants facing side but not on the undies side. But the barrel peg is held on by a screw and maybe a leather flap could be attached?? The only downside other than that is you pretty much have to pull it out to reholster. Its a shot in the dark and plus the barrel tends to pinch undies in between it and the barrel peg. But if I ever need to pull it out I doubt I'll be in a rush to reholster.

I forgot to post this pic. Figured some may be interested in how it fits. There isn't a cant to it but it doesn't seem to matter. I went for a walk, about a mile or so and it was pretty comfortable.

Wonder if a person could add some shims to make it ride a little higher.

I like to be able to get a grip before I start the draw. Seems like that wouldn't be too hard.

I usually like a straight up draw and not much if any forward cant.

Your still miles ahead of pocket carry even the way it is.

Nice jeans. Look new.

Good deal, heck for the money I may grab one up to play with, I can't imagine you'll ever get one any thinner

Those versacarry's have always been interesting to me, but cannot get over the lack of (or just not that great) trigger cover. Makes me nervous. It covers it some, but not near enough to get me comfortable w/ it.

That was definitely not one to add to the "no good very bad day" column. As for the holster, it sounds very interesting ... give it some time & if you don't somebody else around here will figure out how to make it a little bit safer.

Just some input on the VersaCarry. I have had one for almost a year now for my CM9, and by far the most concealable option I have used. With that being said it may not be for everyone. The gun is against your skin if you are not wearing a t-shirt. Some may not care for that, I don't mind. Yes you will have to take the VersaCarry off to re-holster. It is not a range holster! It is a concealed carry holster! There are different size options for each caliber to satisfy how deep you want to conceal your weapon. As for the "gotta have a trigger guard" crowd, it does come with one, if you choose to use it(I don't). With the belt snug tight you cannot get to the trigger. I have tried (with an empty gun of course) and I cannot get to the trigger. As with any holster, drawing or re-holstering is when accidents happen, so practice. And don't be that "internet guy" who bashes a gun or product without using it. As I said before, the VersaCarry is not for everyone. Thanks and congrats to the OP for your "Christmas Party!"

OnTarget31,

Hope I didn't come across as 'that internet guy'. They definitely aren't for me. I've played w/ them at gun shows and at LGSs that have had them. Anyway, many of your observations having carried it were ones that prevented me from trying one. The trigger guard is the biggest...and I'm definitely in the 'gotta have a trigger guard' crowd. Nobody will ever convince me different on that one. More of an issue was reholstering. Yes, I could practice, but something like that just makes it a total PIA when there are other more comfortable (thin IWB kydex, Remora, Sticky) options. I've now moved on from Kydex to Remora, but that's another story. You can practice w/ any setup, but the convenience to re-holster quickly has always been my preference.

Anyway, I just didn't find it comfortable, nothing to protect the gun from my skin or sweat coming through my shirt tail. Just not compelling enough w/ so many 'thin' options out there. Agreed nothing will be less bulky IWB, but at the same time, it leaves pretty much the full body and contour, edges, etc of your firearm pressing against you. I prefer a little padding between my gun and MY padding, haha.

Chrish,

Not at all, actually had to go back and read what you posted. I just made that statement for the upcoming firestorm that usually follows that kind of holster. Yes, it is not for everyone. It is for sure not for the range! lol It is a one time draw kind of holster, kind of like when your life is on the line. Now one thing I don't like about is it's inability to be tuckable, so I purchased a Foxx holsters little fox which is also very nice! Anyway, just wanted you to know that comment was not made for you or anyone else that posted before I wrote it. I just can't stand to read people's BS about stuff they have never tried themselves! Of course it is the internet and it has to be true! :D

All good points guys. The way I see it, the only real danger would be the possibility of my undies snagging the trigger when clipping it on or reholstering. I've been putting it on while pulling my waistband out a bit, and I was also thinking about an accidental discharge with the barrel being plugged up. Probably send shrapnel into my leg. Unless of course the side panel were to blow out like the manual says. hmmm. At any rate, I'm a big guy and I knew I need something slim for summer IWB carry. I've been tucking it in and wearing it without a holster since I got it to get familiar with it and the grip always seemed to ride along the edge of my pants, even on a mile hike. I considered one of these while searching the internet.

I like this along the lines of the crossbreed or king tuk concept but I have no experience with kydex and am on the fence about it. I like the fact that it is formed and rigid but it just looks so damn thin. If I decided to go with a similar design I would most definitely go all leather. I also considered a Desantis sof tuk but its not reinforced. i don't know, I'll post any updates that seem relevant. I appreciate all the input and If anyone else plays the same number and we win, we should all chip in and build a tactical range that rivals Brad Pitts recent gift of a gun range to Angelina. I'll shoot with her anytime.

That is a good day. I can't find that 9mm anywhere around here.

On the versacarry, Very interesting. I have looked at those. I've been playing with some kydex and kind of a reverse holster design that's a cross between a mic and a Versacarry. If I can get it working right I'll post a picture of it. It has good retention, almost too good because you have to give it a weird twist to release when it's in the waist band. I need to experiment with the cant and I'm hoping to get it working 100%.

I think I'd probably try one if I had a gun that had a slide melt for comfort and also if it had a trigger guard on both sides. I love the idea of it in principle. I've been toying w/ ordering a Vanguard trigger guard + lanyard from Raven Concealment. But I don't always have something to tie the lanyard to that would be substantial enough to draw (keep it clean people, I know where that comment is going).

Yqtszhj Id definitely be interested to see it. Chrish I'm not familiar with the trigger guard or lanyard idea either. I'll have to look into it.

Raven Concealment makes a couple VanGuard and VanGuard II. There is another company, but it escapes me.

http://www.ravenconcealment.com/holsters/vanguard-holster-systems

I've thought about this as a solution for a couple of uses. Mainly, toss it in a hip pack. Trigger coverage. Lash the lanyard to something on the bag. When you draw, it comes off. No need for anything else 'in the way'. I was actually discussing this use w/ another member recently here that was looking for a biking/running solution. Didn't work for him I don't think, but for hiking and around town, its one idea I've had. Second, thought about the 'quick IWB' solution w/o futzing w/ a holster, just lashing it to my belt or a belt loop. Not sure I really NEED an alternate carry solution to the Remora in that case, so it's mainly been something I've been considering for hip-pack/back-pack carry when IWB doesn't really work for me.

OOPS. off topic. Sorry to the OP. I'll refrain. If you guys want to continue the ultra-low-footprint holster discussion...I'll watch for it.

Versa's
I have a few of these for a certain purpose only!
Here's the facts:
They are NOT recommended for IWB! OWB only
They are gun(s) specific NOT universal.
Positives: Light thin and easy
Negative no trigger guard and no retention if you were say running
you can speak with the owner of the company he's very honest about what they can and Can't do.
Give them the make and model he will set the proper rise for you after you tell him what you like.
Good luck with lottery tix. I use any of my k9 holsters with my cw9 quite well....

Not for IWB? Huh? Straight from Versacarry website, "Versacarry gives you the freedom to choose virtually any gun you wish to carry, with any accessory combination for sturdy, INSIDE-THE-WAISTBAND concealment." Not sure where you got your facts, but they don't coincide with the website.

Maybe things changed I got 2 years ago and they told me via phone NOT.
Perhaps I stand corrected?
I use mine in only one circumstance, anyhow. I could imagine reholstering down my pants, however....

My CW9 has a pretty heavy trigger pull. I don't wear undies made of steel so I'm thinking I'm alright really. Those vanguards look interesting. I made a few changes to my versa carry. I made a little relief groove to accommodate the slide lock pin and heated up the trigger guard plate and bent it at the joint to sit firmly against my trigger guard. These two small changes made it even more slim. More rounded contour now against the waistband of my shorts or pants. I still wish it had a wrap around full trigger guard plate. If the company were to offer it it probably would take the versa out of versa carry though. If they just made the trigger guard plate a bit longer I could have heated it up and wrapped it all the way around. Hmmm. Maybe I'll get a piece of plastic and shape it a bit and attach it the the trigger guard plate. If I do I'll post pics.
