Hey everyone new to the forum not sure if this question belongs here or not. That being said here it goes, im looking for anyone that has any experience in polishing a kahr slide to help me out. Im looking to polish to a mirror finsh my cw40. Me being egar bever I jumped to the old reliable mothers mag&aluminium polish. The mothers got the slide to a good shine but I still have machine marks :-/. Ive read of methods going from 1000 grit to 2500 grit wet dry sand paper then finshing with polish for that mirror finsh I want. Looking for anyone to help guide me..

Note: im a major diy guy I hate paying for something I can do also id like to do this by hand maybe even a polishing bob on a drill thats about as far as I want to go into tools. Id rather spend my money on stocking ammo and use elbow grease for this than to loose out on them good ol ammo rush prices and spend money on new tools :-D

Thanks all,

Matt

The slide is harder than heck and polish from the get go won't do more than a deep clean.

Do as you said and progress through the paper. That will get you a real smooth near mirror finish. Then go to the buffer wheel or the polish if you don't have a buffer.

I've started my PM45. I just take it a bit at a time. I got it shiny but no where near mirror finish. Did about the same on my K40.

Takes some effort and time but it's doable.

I was looking at a set of polishing wheels for a bench grinder recently (I'm back and forth on the polishing thing myself.) It seems like in the kit you got 2 wheels for the starting process, 2 wheels for the finishing process, and all the 4-6 bars of polishing compound needed for the whole kit thing for about $60. It was a good deal but I can't find the website now.

Edit:

Here you go. I found it.

Welcome to the forum! :) Some folks just do the sides. That's the way the Elite 2003 Ks and MKs are done. Looks sharp.

I am not a DIYer, but I was lucky enough to find this mirror polished CM9 here in the Marketplace.

Here is the For Sale thread where the original owner describes how it was done: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=7091.

lowes has a polishing kit for a dremel on sale for like $5. Blue Hawk is name brand, comes with 3 polishing wheel, nylon and steel brushes. polishing compound is included. I bought to polish my slide on CW9.

Will be tough to get a good even mirror polish with that set up. I tried that some on mine. For smaller stuff it's the ticket but for a slide a 6" minimum buffer wheel on a bench grinder is the ticket.

Not saying it can't be done but it will take some time.
