Can anyone recommend a good book that explains how various makes of pistols work (including Kahr, if possible)? I'm interested in the history of their development. Read a wonderful book awhile back called American Rifle. It dealt with the history and development of American military rifles. I'd like to find the same thing for pistols, but would like a little more detail into the mechanics of the pistol as well.

thanks,

Tancred

pistols only covered casually... but well enough....

get Hatcher's Notebook - still less than $50 (unless you get scalped)

Everything you need to know about anything is in there - so long as its gun related.

You'll even learn about the Munroe effect, and what a Sweetie barrel is..... and how to do simple math calculations to make any gun engineering problem a cake walk.... such as... if I convert a 1911 from 45acp to 10mm auto, how heavy will the slide need to be in order to keep the slide's velocity (and thus the recoil spring) the same in both instances.

Its all there... plus... how we fought two world wars with the wrong ammo!

Fascinating reading from the guy who was head of machine guns, head of ordnance and head of Springfield armory at one time or another... and who knew Browning, Pederson, Garand and Thompson and others first hand.

I just checked, it's available at Amazon for 20 or less in soft cover.

Don't see it in Kindle format.

I might order a copy myself.
