Just got a used K9 and I'm going over it with a good cleaning. Noticed some small pitting under the grips and also some scratches on the breechblock face. Scratches aren't too deep. Thinking about trying to polish them out. Any suggestions on the best way to do that?

Thanks,
Tancred

Under the grips I usually use a little oil and some steel wool or fine scotch brite pad. Sometimes a brass brush is enough if it's not to bad.

The same should work on the breech face. Solvent and a good brass or bronze brush should be enough on the breech face.

Be sure to flush the surface well to get any steel wool left behind if you use it. I've never had a problem but some say it will rust on it's own.

I also take the grips off periodically and clean and oil underneath them. Both the frame and the grip.

If you go with steel wool use 0000 and don't rub too hard. Hoppes and 0000 does one hell of a job on light rust.
