I have a cw9 and just placed an order for a PM9 mag.
wanting to do a grip chop, i think it looks better (in proportion with the barrel length). Found quite a few posts relating to this chop and looking forward to doing this.

It'll probably fit in your pocket better.

Is it just me, or is this crazy talk?
I would keep the CW9 and go get a CM9. All done, no worries.

He already named himself cw9 covert. I think he has already made up his mind!

More power to you! Just post photos for the rest of us. There are some others here that have done it also, so be sure to search the forum and maybe PM them for some advice before you pull out the hacksaw!

The ones that have done it have done OK. It's an interesting thought but I ended up trading mine for a CM9. I should have kept the cw9 and bought the CM9 too. Oh well....

I prefer the full grip my CW9 gives me

I have to agree. I carry my wife's PM9 now and then, but mainly rely on P/K sized models. The grip is just right--not too big, not too small. If I need something smaller, I typically need it a lot smaller.

can't ccw here in ca. just like small guns that are ccw-able with all the benefits as others have said - longer sight radius

gotta go with lamppa:Amflag2: other than being ableto say "I covertedmy cw". I feel u gained really nutting. That extra slide and barrel length IMO is more b.s.than substance. Just sayin

Buy the cm9 and bedonewith it, have thenthe best ofboth worlds..

I've always thought that two guns were better than one. I guess that's how I ended up with a safe full. I wouldn't do the chop as you're not gaining a thing. Buying the CM9 gives you a great carry gun and a backup to your home defense gun.

I did one a few years ago. I have a CW9 right now and placing an order for another. Just might chop one of them.

Not yet. Still on my list though. Too busy with a 15 month old always wanting me to read a book to her everyday after work.
Someday, someday it will get done.

Actually you can ccw in CA if you live in the right county. I just applied for my ccw permit. I'll let you all know how it goes. It should take about 3 months.

I am considering doing this also, with my P9. I really like the Covert. Hard to find them out there now.....

Enjoy reading the books. Fifteen month olds have the nasty habit of becoming 18 year olds who have no time for their fathers.

Alright, started the chop job last week. I modified the front sight and installed a green FO rod as well.

The chop is not done yet. Still need to take some off to fit the 6 round mag. Plus the cut is not even.

It's very nice to still have some to take off rather than oops took too much.

I happy to see the hack saw, not many folks even have those around anymore these days.

I think in my position I'd probably use my bandsaw but a hack saw would be a very close 2nd choice.

Did you recite any new prayers before you start stroking the hack saw.

I know when I bobtailed my first 1911 I was very close with the good book.

Somethings you just can't put back and you gotta get it right the first time.

I was real nervous laying that hack saw on the frame.

I'm picking up a CW45 tomorrow and once I start CCin I was thinkin about doin the same thing. Cut the handle to fit a 5 round mag then carry a 7 or 8 round mag as a spare. But I won't do it till I get comfortable with it and when IL ever passes the friggin CC!

FWIW, to me the CW45 carries good with the full grip IWB and I can get all 3 fingers wrapped around the grip. No pinkie dangle. I'd leave it as is.

Want a shorter one? The CM45 will be out before long.

I'm not really to worried about it right now. It will probably be a year till they pass the CC in IL. I really like the full grip as well. That and the barrel being longer than the smaller compacts. I was just thinkin the handle would print a bit.

I find that it is always the handle that prints when I carry in my pocket. In a good holster, the gun is just a bulge. But then you add the grip at almost a right angle and you have the L shaped bulge that says 'gun'. Having the grip shortened will definitely lessen the printing. Another advantage if you carry in the front pocket is that it makes the gun easier to draw.
