I bought the 20.5 lb Wolff recoil springs for my PM9. The front spring replacement is easy as pie, but I'm not so sure about the back spring. I'm a bit concerned about the Locktite and resealing it. Think it would be harmful to leave it alone? Any special instructions to help in that process?

I think that the important one is the outer one. The inner is best left alone. If you do take it apart and can get it back together, use Loctite Red... the better holding stuff.
I'm not an expert, but maybe someone else will come along.
I'm an AF Vet, too, as is my wife of 24 years. I retired end of June'88 and my wife end of Sept.'96.

Red loctite is pretty tough stuff. Usually you have to heat it to approx 400 degrees F to break it free. You can use a butane lighter for something the size of the recoil spring assembly, or you can heat it in the oven. If you use a lighter you can tell the approx temp because at 400 the metal just starts to discolor. Welding gloves are recommended.

I would recommend using a soldering gun/iron.
Touching the screw head with the soldering gun will isolate the heat to just the screw and soften the loctite.
Just sayin'

Good call Tilos, I never thought about a soldering iron but it should work just fine if it is a good one.

alot just replace the outter and leave it at that. It is not hard to replace the innder but you do need alittle heat on that little end cap and it will come right off and U MUST lockeite it back on, Not sure if Red locktite is needed but YMMV. I use the blue and so far have never lost that end cap.
If your worried about messing it up. just replace the outter and you will be OK. The 20.5# springs are very nice IMO. It should end any of the not returning to full battery and it sure helps in peeling off that top round into the chamber. You can shoot the 20.5 # springs alot longer to. Wolffs tests these sprngs out also. They just don't make um and guess they will be OK. It should also help somewhat with recoil or felt recoil..

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I guess I'll just leave it alone. :-)
jocko: I ordered the extra power magazine springs too.
wyntrout: Thanks for you and your wife's service. I spent 5 1/2 years in the AF as a comm. officer, but have tremendous respect for folks who make a career of it. There are plenty of sacrifices to be made over that many years.
