Hey guys, first post. I've been lurking for a while and this forum helped me decide on a P380 for my carry. I originally wanted a CW380 but could not find one locally. All considered it was not much more money for the P.

Anyway I wanted to share my experience shooting the first 50 rounds. First I did read all the threads on prepping a new Kahr so I disassembled, cleaned and lubed it both before and after the range session. I used Winchester 380 FMJ 95 grain flat nose ammo (the only ammo I could get locally!) and used both the 6 and the 7 round mags. With the exception of 2 premature slide lock backs the little P380 performed flawlessly. The 2 lock backs were both after firing the first shot using the 7 round mag - and I only tried the 7 round mag twice. Using the 6 round mag it worked perfect!

Bottom line is I'm very impressed with the gun. I was not expecting great accuracy but after a while I was able to get about a 6 inch grouping at 7 yards. This was about as good as I got from my 9 mm P89 I shot during the session too. (I'm pretty rusty from not shooting much recently!)

Glad to be here - I'll update when I get more rounds through it!

Good the hear, mine is amazingly accurate for such a small gun. More rounds and you will love it even more.

Glad to hear! Those little guns are great. I don't think you will regret buying the P380. By the way, Welcome to the forum from a fellow Texan.

since kahr won't release the damn cw380 the PICO from beretta is looking like it might beat it to the stores... time will tell!

Glad yours is running well! Keep us posted!

Awesome. Congrats on having the best pocket 380 ever made. I love mine as well.

Thanks for the replies.

I put another 100 rounds thru it earlier today. I had a few more premature slide lock backs using both the 7 and the 6 rd mags. None in the last ~20 rounds or so. So its not the 7rd mag. Other than that it worked great.

I'm having a tendency to pull down slightly when pulling the trigger. I'm finding I really have to work at not doing this. If I relax a little I shoot low! Lol. This Kahr trigger will take a bit to get used to!

But overall another good day at the range . . .

Welcome to Kahrtalk Brontosaurus!!!...Glad to hear the little P is working so good for you....Shooting low and left (for right handed shooters) is very common with the small grip and long trigger pull of Kahr pistols....I find I shoot my PM40 much better using more trigger finger up to the first joint to keep the front sight on target....

The slide lock problem may be your thumb hitting the slide lock lever (with such a small pistol it's hard not to sometimes) Try to keep your thumbs away from the lever if you can....It also may be due to the ammo....I seem to remember other people having problems with the flat nose stuff feeding so try some WWB FMJ round nose if you can find some for the remainder of the break in period...(ammo seems to be creeping back to wally world in some places so good luck there)....

Main problem with many new Kahrs is they haven't been shot near enough so keep at it and the more rounds down range the better it will perform....Yours seems like it has no feeding issues and other than being super tight and needing more break in rounds you have found the perfect pocket pistol for years to come....Again welcome aboard and happy shooting...

Are you making sure you're not inadvertently hitting the slide lock with your thumb when firing? It is easy to do with this little pistol, and could be causing your problems with the premature lock back.

It's easy to bump the slide lock on the P380 even when you think you're not doing it. I think the best way to approach it with this little pistol is to adopt a hold where your thumb rests on top of the slide lock, as having it fail to lock back when empty is much preferred over having a premature slide lock, especially when there's bullets coming your way as well.

Another 50 rounds today - for a total of 200! Very good day at the range. I did have 3 premature slide lock backs, but I'm pretty sure it was me. Only happened when I relaxed a bit and didn't concentrate as hard as I should. I also shot my 9mm and .22LR Rugers. The little 22 sure is accurate and easy to shoot!

Anyhow a good day. So much so that I've decided to use the Kahr for the range portion of my CHL course - which is tomorrow. I was trying to decide between the Ruger P89 and the P380. I feel confident enough now with the Kahr that I don't think I'll have an issue passing the course using it.

Tomorrow will be a long day - TX requires a min of 10 hours instruction.

Thanks again for all the welcomes and replies.

If you're not required to shoot the actual pistol you'll be carrying then I'd suggest using the P89 instead, just in case.

Long day! Over 12 hours to get the required 10 hours of classroom and range time. I passed!

But heeding the discretion and valor saying, I took dsk's advice and shot the P89.:o

Interesting course. I enjoyed it.
