I wanted to share a couple projects I completed this week as well as an addition by subtraction...
I finished the rebuild of my Ruger 10/22 previously mentioned in another thread. The only part left on her actually made by Ruger is the receiver. Parts include a Green Mountain 20" fluted bull barrel, Clark Customs 2.5 lb trigger, Kidd Bolt, Houge Overmold stock, Rimfire Technologies charging handle, guide rod, recoil spring and v-block, Volquartsen recoil buffer, Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3-9X40mm scope. Total cost = too much. Total fun = off the chart. A visit to the range this past weekend produced consistent 1/2 to 3/4" groups at 50 yds with CCI Mini Mags, and 1.5" groups at 100 yds with CCI Standard Velocity. I think I can shoot better with it, especially with some high velocity ammo at 100 yds.
I also refreshed my Colt M4 Carbine by ditching the Magpul MOE handguard for a Midwest Industries Gen2 drop in handguard. A small change that made a big difference in how the rifle looks and feels. It feels more solid while reducing the weight almost 2 oz. I also added a Magpul AFG2, CTR stock and FDE ladder rail covers. The only other addition I have planned is an Aimpoint Pro for Christmas. I love this rifle.
Last I decided to part ways with my Marlin XT-22. I am not going to bash Marlin, but there were some quality issues with the gun and I decided it was best to let it go. What I replaced her with is a GSG 522, a .22LR clone of the MP5. I had eyed it a few times before but this time there was no walking away. I got it on sale with free range time, three mags and 100 rds of .22LR. Its a blast to shoot, plain and simple. :)
I'm very happy with how the Ruger and Colt turned out, and while the Marlin was a disappointment, the GSG 522 made up for it. My wife says I need help, but I did most of it by myself :p
