Had fun days at the range yesterday and today. Today especially, because a very nice older gentleman took me aside and explained the whole Cowboy Action Shooting thing to me. He let me shoot his .44 Special at some steel plates. It was some kind of special edition very special awesome Ruger revolver! Anyway, it was very cool for him to take the time out to share his hobby and passion with me.

Great! It's nice when you meet some people like that who like to share their experience and hobby with you. I enjoy doing that myself sometimes.
Dang! I am kind of an older gentleman, too!:D

I refuse to divulge my true age.
As I would have to change my name and move - again.
Picked up a couple of boxes of -
Magtech Cowboy Action Ammunition 44 Special 240 Grain Lead Flat Nose.
Going to try with my S&W 629-2 44 Mag Mountain Gun.
Looks like it might be some fun paper punching stuff...

These guys go full out in period costumes and even come up with cowboy names for themselves. It seems a little overboard to me, but I can certainly see the enjoyment in it. To compete, you need two revolvers, a rifle, and a shotgun (all replicas from mid to late 1800's), so it can be expensive to get into (not counting the fake handlebar mustache).

I'd love to go watch some of their matches. A few years ago I thought I'd like to get into it, even found a period correct wheel chair, all solid oak, wood wheels, leather, weighed a freaking ton. Derelicts in those days had it very bad me thinks.
I just cut most of it off but generally I could usually do the real handlebar mustache thing, I already got a caboy hat, actually I think I got everything just need desire, motivation, and a place semi near to do it.
My hero's have always been cowboys........or SEALs.

I thought that you were a recoil junky? I believe that they would probably feel like shooting a 22 lr. in your mountain gun. :D

That load killed many a low down horse thieving cowboy and wild eyed red skin on the war path so don't scoff at it....It's about the same ballistically as the vaunted .45 ACP which we all know (Jocko included) will knock a T-Rex on his butt with a single round....;)
I watched The Good he Bad and The Ugly last night on cable...Made me want one of those old Colt Dragoons real bad....He!! Clint didn't need no pistol, he could just squint and look a T-Rex in he eye and it would fall over dead right there....
I think either the Cowboy Action shooting deal or a Zoot Shooters match with the 1930's guns and outfits would be a blast just to watch....

OH SO SHINY!!!!...Me Want.....I hadn't seen that movie in a long time but it has some great lines...
Tuco/Eli Wallach: When you got to shoot, shoot....Don't talk...
Blondie/Clint Eastwood to Tuco: In this world there's two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns and those that dig........You dig.....
Blondie: You run the risks my friend but I do the cutting, we cut down on my percentage it's liable to interfere with my aim...
Blondie: Every gun makes it's own tune.....
Aint nothing like a good old western and Good Bad and he Ugly is a classic for sure....
