Staples rejects gunsmith's contest application

Staples has a small business contest called PUSH IT Forward to win advertising funding. Maple Creek Gunsmithing in Fremont, Nebraska applied but Staples rejected their application, quote:

“We’re sorry, but your small business entry into the Staples PUSH It Forward Contest has been rejected for the following reason(s): Entry contains content that promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing); promotes any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous; promotes any particular political agenda or message; is obscene or offensive; or endorses any form of hate or hate group.”

I wrote an e-mail to Staples, copy to the NRA, stating I will no longer buy from them, since Staples does not support businesses that are integral to the 2nd Amendment. They are also lumping firearms with illegal drugs, obscenities and hate speech.

I saw this story posted in another forum and the guy got a followup from Staples wherein they apologized and said that, while they cannot change the rules on this contest because it is already in progress, they will change the rules in future contests to prevent this from happening again. Satisfactory, IMO.

sometimes I really hate to boycott a business that is ignorantin respect for the most all employees who had no say so in the decision.It hurts them and I know that. Ok, got a minute. This is a true story, I forget what the military guys would say but since I wasn't military I guess it don't matter.

My second career in my youth was building fences. My dad started out working for a fence company when we moved out here from Missouri. I used to tell people I was a fence man and they oooh and aww about all the offensive and defensive moves I have to make with my sword.
I'm like huh, I'm just stringing up wire to keep the neighbors dog from crapping in my yard. Anyhow..........

Anyhow I'd been doing it for several years. Had a new guy start and as usual his hands took a beating, your mixing and working with cement and then galvanized pipe and wire. Your hands dry out and your hands take a real beating and most guys really don't like to wear gloves except when placing the wire.

Anyhow he's whining and trying girly man hand lotions and it's not helping. So I told him go to the drug store and get a can of Bag Balm, it's made to put on cows teets so they don't dry out and crack from milking and cleaning etc. Stuff comes in a square kind of green can. It stinks something awful but it works like a champ.

Well one evening after work he heads off to the drug store after some. He walked up and down the aisles and can't find the stuff. Finally a young lady ask if she can help him. He tells her he's looking for some Bag Balm. Well she being young and a city girl had no idea what it is. She ask him what it's for. He tells her you smear it on your teets to keep em from drying out and cracking.

Well as one would expect she was quite put out with the very suggestion that her teets could dry out and crack. The only reason my new guy is alive today is there was an old country gal in ear shot that told her to calm down, you don't smear it on your teets, you smear it on cow teets and it's 2 aisles over.

This of course led the first lady to wonder what they hell they were doing with vet supplies in a drug store but that's another story.

From a legal stanpoint NOPE THEY CANNOT. Once the contest starts the rules at the beginning have to be followed all the way to the end. Common Sense really. Legalities have consequences also. Donthca know...

Staples announced very poor earnings below forecast and is closing 225 of its 1,800 stores. Maybe boycotting by 2nd Amendment supporters helped make that happen. Hope so.

Staples is closing a lot (over 200) of stores nationwide because their business is so bad. Maybe management is making other bad decisions even worse than their decision to reject the gunsmith from this marketing game.
